Planning Issues

Lexi, on October 5, 2019 at 8:04 PM Posted in Planning 0 21
Hi all, I’m having a lot of trouble deciding on a color scheme. I just love so many colors, and I have no restrictions because my fiancé is leaving it all up to me and I don’t really have a wedding party to help. So basically I’m wondering how do y’all decide what colors to use? Is there a system you use or something?

I basically went with colors I liked and went well together. Think about if you've a favorite color?

I guess I’m typically drawn to sunset-y colors like pink yellow and orange. But then I also really like dusty blue and sage green... I just like color lol

I think the concept of "wedding colors" is super over-rated. It's just a simplified version of a uniformed theme to make it easier for people with limited design and branding experience. If you like a bunch of different colors, you can just do muted tones, pastels, or even a rainbow theme if that's your thing! You do you, girl!

I found a 👗that I liked at David’s Bridal years ago. I purchased decorating items in or with that (main) color. Then, they discontinued or renamed the color. I also selected secondary and accent colors.

I ordered an Ivory👰👗that had my primary color on it and other things to compliment or coordinate.

    It all came together.

I chose based on a color FH loved and a color I loved. Then we accented it with white/ivory Smiley smile

I picked my colors based on the season (Fall) I chose. My bridesmaids will be in wine dresses and carry a single sunflower and the groomsmen will be in white shirts with gray vest and a wine tie. My FH asked to wear all black so that is what he will wear

I knew we liked the outdoors woodsy theme and winter wonderland theme. So we chose dec and a backyard vintage kind of styled romantic venue. This helped choose romantic colors so burgundy, blush and a little white, navy, silver and lots of greenery

We based our colors on the venue we selected. We’re actually having 2 different color schemes from the ceremony to the reception. So go ahead and have fun with colors.

I love color too! So we technically have 7 colors 😅, with two being the main. I'm a BIG fan of mix matched things and I really wanted to use mine & my FH's fav colors. So I like blue, and he likes red, but I DID NOT want a red, white, and blue wedding haha.

Knowing I wanted red & blue & was having a spring wedding I went through and found some shades I really loved. I added in other colors based off flowers I knew I wanted and that's how we got 7!

It's your wedding, do what you want! Just make sure to have a solid theme so it all ties together in the end 😊 .

My FH and I are using our favorite colors (Blue and Green) since they happen to go together. We searched for a tartan that had those and chose the shades from that (Navy & Emerald).

My mother used a variety of pastels, which it sounds like might suit you better. I believe her girls had sky blue, pastel pink, mint green and a pastel yellow in the same style.

You might also want to look at what flowers you will be able to get in season and start a color palette from there.

I started by looking at pinterest, found some looks I liked, and went from there. Then when FH and I started talking dates, I realized it didn't really feel like the right colors for the season. Then I thought about our favorite colors (Mine are Orange or Pink, and his is Purple), with a spring wedding I thought Peach and Lavender. He thought that seemed too Eastery ( its 13 days after Easter, dear Smiley xd ). So then I looked at shades of pink and purple, and I found a color pallet on pinterest that was Dark Purple, Light Pink, and Gold and I fell in LOVE with them. I showed it to FH and he agreed. Now this was 3 years ago, and all of a sudden they're super common colors ( at least around here). At first I was upset, and was worried our wedding would look like everyone elses, But it has actually been super helpful because people are reselling items and I am getting my decorations cheaper lol

Our colors were chosen to help with spring. They are not the "easter" colors but we did the dark amethyst/plum purples, the indigo blues, with white. Our venue, We are unsure if snow will be on the ground so we wanted something that stands out plus goes with everything else. I went off of what I wanted for my flowers and what we are doing for centerpieces. If we did a fall wedding like originally planned, we would have added in dark maroons/burgundy's' for fall. season will help you decide and so does the venue (location, surroundings, etc)

I thought about my season, my venue and what I was looking to achieve. I also had a huge pinterest board of different colors and I started layouts using different color schemes including how I would incorporate it with wedding party dress, groomsmen tuxes and decor. I settled on Navy, coral, gray/white.

We used a variation on our favorite colors (purple and green) and went with lilac and sage. Our wedding is in the spring, so the pastel colors work great. Our venue is pretty neutral which helps too. You might find that your venue influences color choice. For example, a beachy venue might lean in to blues with bright pops of color.
