Venue should be first....budget really depends on what you can afford to spend not how much you want to. The venue is usually the most important and expensive and everything falls under that.

Thank you for that advice that'll be my first step. Nice and sweet is what I'm aiming for ...nothing ridiculously overboard.

Welcome to the WeddingWire community, Denitra!

    Congratulations on your engagement!

I’m sorry you’re overwhelmed with the planning, however, you’re completely normal! It can be difficult to know where to start!

I would recommend you check out the WeddingWire checklist list tool. It’s an amazing tool to help you build out your planning timeline and what to tackle first.

According to the checklist, the first steps in wedding planning are deciding on your budget and starting your guest list Smiley smile

For help creating your budget, check out this WeddingWire article - Setting Up Your Wedding Budget.

Your budget should be decided first because honestly it makes no sense to book or find anything if you can’t afford it lol. The way I did it was made a list of all FH and I’s monthly bills and accounted for spending and emergency money. What was left I multiplied by the amount of months I had until my wedding (not counting the month of my wedding) that was our budget. Then created a guest list and then a venue.

Start looking at venues and that will quickly help you determine your budget. Make yourself a dream board of the things you’d like to have, start pricing them and that will give you a guide as to what direction you wish to take.
