Moriah, on January 31, 2019 at 8:27 PM Posted in Fitness and Health 0 14
My estimates have came in that I will more than likely be on my period for our wedding and honeymoon! Yikes! My period is very irregular! But I would like to go with out a period for 2-3 months. I’m not currently taking birth control but may try to get one does of the shot! Advice or recommendations? TIA!

I’m irregular too but for awhile in college I was using the nuvaring. It instantly made me regular when I was using it so I was able to clock it out easier and shift the cycles when needed. Maybe talk to your doctor to see if that’s a good option

If you aren't use to using BC, I personally wouldn't advise going straight for the shot. Everyone is different, but I've heard many people complain of lots of bleeding on the shot. I have always been a fan of seasonique. It's a 3 month course of BC pills. You get a period 4 times a year. Since your wedding is in June, I would suggest talking to your doc and looking at your options right away so you have some time to get regular and use to the medication.

Stress has a huge factor when it comes to your cycle so your cycle may even end up coming later anyways because I’m sure you will have some sort of stress/nerves. It may just get delayed naturally. I don’t know how safe it is to try and skip 2-3 months worth.

If irregular the best thing is to get on the pill. It would not only regulate your period but you’ll be able to work around it to avoid having your period on your wedding & honeymoon.

I am also irregular. I used to use Nuvaring. 3 weeks, take it out and hello period. Want to stall it...just insert it when you want to delay or stop it.

You need to talk to your PCP or your Ob/Gyn regarding your options. Long story short, combined oral contraceptives (the estrogen/progesterone pill, the patch, and the ring) are options that will most likely make your periods regular, but won’t eliminate them. However, based on your age and risk factors they might or might not be an option. Methods like the shot (Depo-Provera injection), hormonal IUD (Mirena, Skyla), are known for causing irregular bleeding, especially at the beginning, and then can cause lighter periods or eliminate them completely. It all depends what your goal is, do you want to regulate your cycle, or you just want to ensure you won’t have your period on your wedding? Those are two different goals and both of them can be discussed with your doctor, since your whole history, risk factors, and plans for the future in terms of when/if you want to have kids, come into place when deciding birth control options.

You can take low dose birth control pills without ever taking a placebo week and you'll never have a period again. Some people just have light spotting a panty liner can easily take care of. Also reduces hormonal acne. Ask your gyno!

I decided to get an IUD. Started with Skyla (3 years) and had irregular but very light periods maybe every few months. I'm on year 2 of Mirena (5 years) and haven't had a period once! I've encouraged friends to get it who aren't consistent with taking a pill every day. I love that I dont have to worry about it!

I would suggest the pill. I’ve heard way too many bad things about the shot (plus I’m a wimp when it comes to them anyway). I’ve never had any problem with remembering it, which is the reason some people hesitate to use the pill. Plus I can skip my period whenever I want. I’m also due to have my period on my wedding, so I’ll just be skipping it to get on the track I need.

I'd get the pill that doesn't let you have your period for awhile around that time. It would be one less thing to worry about.

In addition there are are a couple of over the counter remedies that will help with help regulate your cycle. One of them is chaste berry. The next one I really like because because it also helps maintain uterine health, it's a fertility tea that has equal parts dried nettle, raspberry leaf, red clover, and lady's mantle. Now I get you don't want to have kids right away, this stuff just tones your reproductive system. Another thing that I like to use that gives me a ton of energy, regulates my period and keeps my skin clear is royal jelly. I buy it off Amazon diluted in honey, it's delicious.

Mine has always been very irregular - I've been married before - My period came on our honeymoon and we both ended up with the Swine Flu in a foreign country. LOL I should've known then, right? LOL

However, using the pill, you can typically time it where you skip whatever week you want. I tried the shot and gain SO MUCH WEIGHT on it, ended up pregnant on it and lost the baby because my body basically thought it was already pregnant. It was horrible. Have you tried the arm implant? I recommend the pill though if you're wanting to guarantee yourself to not be on your period when you want.

    Hope this helps!

    • sharing some love on multiple forums on period topic... if you cant stop a period you can hide it... better then a tampon/ last longer between changes and you can have clean sex with one in... he wont even notice it, been using for 2 years and the first year he was clueless until i told him about it.. now he tells his friends about it and they tell thier wives/girlfriends ( its funny listening to him try to explain it lmao.).. its a game changer.
