My wedding is scheduled for June 20th and I already reached out to my venue to ask for a back up date. They said they won't consider postponing until May. I think that you should come up with a back up plan in case but I definitely wouldn't surprise anyone with short notice during this difficult time. Suprising them might mean a lot of people won't show up either because they're not prepared ( not working, didn't save up money) or there is too much risk involved (COVID-19 threat). Since you haven't informed people yet I would just pick a later date now. If you're really set on your May date. Let people know as soon as possible.

A holiday weekend wedding is fine as long as you send save the dates far enough in advance and as long as you’re fine with possibly having a higher than usual decline rate.

I agree with PP. just give them plenty of notice. Holiday weekend weddings can be fun because people have off extra days and are more relaxed.

I have though picked a wedding date for the weekend before the holiday, I did not realize😳 I’m worried about people not being Able to make we are going to send save the dates this summer to give everyone plenty of time notice.
