Planning timeline

Daliana, on September 15, 2021 at 11:42 PM Posted in Planning 1 11
I’m getting married May 2022. So far we’ve already booked venue, caterer, dj, florist, baker, wedding coordinator, photographer and makeup and hair. Because we booked all these things so far in advanced I haven’t really had anything to do planning wise for like three months and I feel like I’m missing something?? I mean I know there’s still things I need to do, I just don’t know what’s next I guess. Any help figuring out what I should do next/if I’m missing something that should be taken care of now would be appreciated!!

Did you make your guest list yet? Do you have everyone’s address? Did you send save the dates? Are you working on your invitations? Create your website with travel info for your guests, etc. Is dress ordered and transportation taken care of? Sometimes the wedding coordinator can be consulted for an hourly fee to help with vendors or needs particular to your town/venue that you may not have thought of. But it sounds like you just need to prepare for sending invites and do the relatively easier stuff of taking care of clothing. Congrats on getting all your main vendors booked so early!

Is your DJ providing the ceremony music/are you using prerecorded music? If not, get contacting some of those. As someone who waited until 2.5 weeks before to mail down the ceremony musician, I wouldn’t recommend putting that off too long. 🤣

The same feeling happened to me! However now I am 2 months out and I've realized there are lots of things you can do now to save time later. Schedule hair & make up trials!!!! I didn't do this because I dumbly assumed they'd contact me about it closer to my wedding.....but they didn't and I forgot about it and now it's too late for me to do a trial. Schedule your dress alterations appointment. Think about decor -- if you need to buy candles, cake stand, cake knife, an arbor, table numbers, welcome sign, guest book, markers, food menus, polaroid film, etc. now is the time! Figure out how you want to do your seating chart...escort cards or a big sign or something else? Etsy has a ton of templates for DIY printing that I've used. If doing escort/name cards you could start working on those. Talk to hotels about room blocks. Work on your registry and wedding website. Think about songs you want during the ceremony. If you want to give any favors like koozies -- order them soon; those usually take 1-2 months to arrive. Help your fiance pick out his suit and tie. Actually I would order anything you can now because shipping times have been wild lately and won't get better with Black Friday coming up. Work on your day-of timeline....like when you & the bridesmaids get where, what's for lunch, when do you get to the venue, when does the photographer arrive where, when is first look, more importantly HOW are you getting to the venue if getting ready off-site (Cabs? Limo? your mom driving you?) Did I stress you out yet!!

Yes! I’ve done all of those things except the wedding dress and transportation. Which the dress was my next thing on the to do list I just can’t do it yet still, but it’s definitely on my radar of things to do next. Thank you!

You're definitely in the period where there is a lull! Personally I think that's fine, it means you aren't going to get burned out with planning.

When I was 7-8 months out (where you are now) the following things were on my to do list: send save the dates, finalize registry, website go-live, book wedding night hotel, definitively pick bridemaids dress color, hair and makeup vendors, schedule venue tasting, order veil swatches (I used Etsy), honeymoon research, and make a rehearsal dinner guest list.

Other things I did shortly thereafter that could be done earlier: book honeymoon, purchase accessories - shoes, jewelry, meet with officiant (my Uncle), send hotel/ travel info to wedding party and immediate family so they could book early (definitely recommend, my hotel booked up FAST), and work on DJ playlist.

Unless you have a lot of room to store stuff, I wouldn't go nuts on purchasing decor and little stuff. Focus on things that will be custom made or you anticipate taking a long time to ship. I ordered most of my decor when I was 4-5 months out. I also don't recommend starting escort cards yet unless you are doing it just for practice/ to get ideas of how you want to do them. Until you have the vast majority of your RSVPs there's just no point because people you think will say yes will say no, tables will get all shifted around, ect. I'm a month out and have 80% of my RSVPs and I still haven't started mine.

I’m in the same boat! Our wedding is May too, and I feel so lost with what I’m supposed to do next. All of our vendors and big ticket items are booked. I will say that the past brides I’ve talked to have said that it’s normal to have this lull, so take advantage of it!

The only reco’s I have are to make a personalized to-do list/timeline leading up to the wedding, so you don’t miss anything you should be doing, saving inspiration ideas for decor, invites, flowers etc, making plans for any DIY stuff you plan to do, planning bridal party gifts if you will do them…

I would start looking and trying on dresses. Make sure you know what you want and feel the most comfortable in.
