Planning too early?

Hi fellow brides and brides-to-be! Our wedding isn't until next May but so far I have booked our venue for the ceremony and reception, our caterer, and our photographer just to get an idea of how much money I have to spend. I'm getting a lot of snarky comments from people saying that I'm planning too early. I'm not sure if it's because I'm overly sensitive or that they're right. I think I'm just anxious about the whole thing. I have a very strict budget and by planning this sixteen months early I feel like I have a better idea of how much I want to save every month. Any thoughts or comments?

We have all the same things booked and ours is next April. It’s not crazy at all. A lot of venues, and professionals are booked out at least a year in advance. Not only that, but like you said, it’s easier to know where your money is going so you can better save and budget towards what’s important to you. In my opinion you’re saving your self from stress in the end.

We got engaged in April 2019, and had our venue booked by May! We don't get married until July this year.

No way! First of all, this is your wedding; not anyone else's. Plan at a pace you are comfortable with. I'm honestly so proud of your for being ahead of schedule and knowing what you want. I'm having the hardest time planning everything and wish I was doing what you are. I'm so happy for you guys! Congrats and enjoy this time!

You’re not Alone! Although I’d like to be as productive as you. So far we’ve only booked our venue, but I’ve been relentlessly looking and researching so that I can too get everything booked ahead. My mom tells me everyday you’re doing too much, you have soooo much time and all I think is she’s nuts! There’s so much to do so much money to be allocated to this and that.

It’s probably best that you’re starting so early. It lets you get a budget in mind and allows you to save up more money as well. I think planning some of the big things is a great idea. Maybe wait to do color schemes and decorations a little bit later just in case your taste or vision changes over time.

Honey no, do what feels right for you! It’s all about the person who’s planning and if that’s you then do it at your own pace!! I planned quite a bit early and ours is early August of this year. The way I see it is it will be less to worry about a month or two before hand and instead you can enjoy the fact you are not stressing so close to the wedding!

There is NO such thing as planning your special day too early. What I have learned so far while planning my wedding is people will always have something snarky to say no matter what you decide. Do what makes you fell happy and stress free. Plus planning in advance gives you more time to build a budget and be able to stick to it or give you wiggle room if needed. At the end of the day do what makes YOU happy. Smiley smile

We are not getting married until July 2021 and I have everything done except... my cake, flowers, and dress. Don't worry about what others say! It is your day. I do not want to stress out over stuff later. I even got my bridal party proposal gifts, bridal party thank you gifts and guest party favors done! I say it is your day! Do it your way! Good luck!

I am also getting married next May and have already booked my venue (which I am having ceremony and reception at), which also does their own catering. I am also going to be meeting with a photographer really soon, and with an officiant. My next step is the DJ, which I have contacted already. I feel the sooner that we get the big things done and out of the way, it is less stressful. Don't worry about what everyone else says. It is your wedding, and if you are enjoying the planning process so far, keep going. I think it's great to get started sooner, dates are taken so fast. Good luck to you.

I’m feeling the same way ! Our wedding is not till September 2021. I feel like if I can slowly pay and save the money for vendors instead of doing it quickly is the best way of doing it.

Hello! We are in a similar boat - our wedding is 5/29/21 and started planning after our engagement this past November. We have booked venue, photographer, florist, day of coordinator, and working through catering tastings now. No harm in booking early!! My fiance and I want to stick to a pretty conservative budget and planning early is allowing us to think through things and find the best option without feeling rushed or overwhelmed. We also are able to get the big things out of the way to look for the most affordable options for the smaller pieces. My coordinator even confirmed - no harm in booking the things you can only get one of now! Smiley smile Cheers to early wedding planning and being able to enjoy the process one big decision at a time!

You're not planning too early. My wedding day is 1/7/2023....I've been saving and planning since June of 2019.

Ours is next June and I am in the same boat. For me this works because it spreads out payments, so I don't have to tap into our savings. Deposits are down and now we can sit back and relax. I don't have to feel pressured into a dress or colors or themes and schemes. We should enjoy this feeling of planning the BIGGEST DAY OF OUR LIVES! I am so excited for the next part of planning now that the biggest aspects of the day are solidified! Cheers to us!

I think you're being proactive Smiley smile Our wedding is June 2021 and we have the venue and caterer booked and are narrowing down the rest. Our venue alone was already booked for two of the four Saturdays available when we toured it. Plus, like you mentioned, this lets people track and control the budget and probably have everything paid off before the actual day arrives! Happy planning!

I hear you! We got engaged on New Years Eve and aren’t getting married until Oct. 2021. However, I really pushed to get my ceremony/reception venue booked as well as my caterer. I wanted to be able to spread out the payments as much as possible and take my time making decisions if need be. You do what’s best for you- don’t worry about what other people say. It’s not their wedding.
