Hi fellow brides and brides-to-be! Our wedding isn't until next May but so far I have booked our venue for the ceremony and reception, our caterer, and our photographer just to get an idea of how much money I have to spend. I'm getting a lot of snarky comments from people saying that I'm planning too early. I'm not sure if it's because I'm overly sensitive or that they're right. I think I'm just anxious about the whole thing. I have a very strict budget and by planning this sixteen months early I feel like I have a better idea of how much I want to save every month. Any thoughts or comments?

Do not worry about what others say or think. Our wedding is in July 2021 and we are in the process of finalizing our venue and DJ. I went to a Bridal expo last weekend and a lot if the vendors were already almost fully booked for 2020. So you go plan away!! Better be safe than sorry you missed out on something you really wanted for your special day.

You sound just like me. We got engaged in November 2019, getting married in June 2021.

We have our venue and I already have my wedding dress bought. Im on the same page as you for researching -- I need to know how much I need to save up each month!

My wedding isn't until next April and I've been planning October 2019. It's not too early to plan anything.

You can never plan too early. My wedding is next Septemeber and we have the venue, catering, I have my dress and shoes, and basically have made our guest list is basically done. Because we're on a budget I much rather plan everything out and knock down the payments in parts rather than bulk payments all at once. I have gotten that same feedback from my cousin that is a self-proclaimed wedding planner, however, everything she does is late minute and high stress and that doesn't work for me at all.

My fiancé and others said the same thing. I’m getting married in October 2021 (engaged April 14, 2019). But just like you, I am not the type of person to do things last minute and I’d rather have the major components done. Gives us time to save and relax, knowing our date is secured. I am an event coordinator for a living and planning my wedding is the last thing I wanted to do (although, I will still have a major hand) so I hired a coordinator ANDD made sure to lock in those 2019 rates. Weddings are hella expensive and we’re paying for all of it. So hell yeah I’m locking in those rates. I have my venue, photographer, caterer and two djs in mind. Do you girl. Nobody should tell you that you’re starting to early. Ain’t nobody got time to stress.

Omg! No. I love to plan ahead. That’s perfect! I’m almost in that boat.
The plan is to not have to worry about anything when the time is here. But, it’s also not very far away.
    I’m with you sister!

No way, you're doing the right thing.

I'm like 160 days away, I have absolutely nothing and I'm starting to freak out. Venue shopping is taking WAY longer than expected. I've also had a few setbacks.

    So yeah.

I think you are doing just fine. I planned my wedding 18 months in advance and I am glad I did. There is a lot to do and buy. I think planning in advance helps you to be organized and have less stress. Just make sure you get wedding insurance in case one of the vendors go bankrupt anything can happen. This way of anything does happen you will get your money back. Our venue went bankrupt on us and if we would not had planned in advance we would have been in trouble.

We haven’t even set a date yet and I’m already trying to plan! Lol I feel you. Never too early to plan in my opinion. Then you can do it at your pace and make sure everything is what you want

Oh my gosh. People are so terrible sometimes. I got engaged June 2019. Booked venue November 2019 for February 2021. The earlier and more ahead of the game I am, the less stress for me!!! I think the budget planning is a great idea!!! Good for you and dont let people ruin the fun of this for you!!

I started planning early too and got the same snarky feedback. I kept hearing "you have plenty of time". In reality, time flies by, and the day will arrive before you know it. I'm also a procrastinator so I want to make sure for my wedding I actually get s**t done. Lol. Planning ahead will give you more time to save money and pay things off early. The only downside to planning early, is that it does give you more time to change your mind on things. My friend got married 10 years ago and only had 3 months to plan their wedding. She said it was easier because decisions were final. Lol but do what you feel is right. It's your wedding.

We got engaged Dec 25, 2018 and our wedding date isn't until April 2021! I have everything booked already and now I'm nearly paid everything off so I can ficus on enjoying time with friends and family before the big day! I even sent my Save the Dates out this week as 90% of our guest list is from NY and we are in CA so they need time to plan and find hotels, etc. I think you are doing great! I also have gotten a lot of comments from friends and stuff about how I'm over thinking it, but most of our vendors loved that I was organized, knew what I wanted and was early! also a bonus was that I got a better deal on pricing Smiley winking

I totally agree! We are both super busy with jobs and everything in the fall, so we basically loose 3-4 months of prime planning time! My cousin got married in 7 months after being engaged and she said a lot of the vendors she wanted were taken! We got pretty much everyone we wanted for our wedding!

Our wedding is February 4th of next year and I’m already planning all of that too. Ours is a destination wedding in Colorado (we live in Texas) so I want everything done in advance for budget reasons as well! My fiancé keeps saying we have so much time but I would feel much better if I had everything planned out and taken care of.

Not too early at all! I have gotten similar comments. Got engaged August 2019, booked the venue in November 2019, and getting married March 2021. I'm also on a tight budget and want to book things early so I'm making more spread-out payments. I've met with a couple of florists so far and will probably be booking one this month. Next on the list is photographer!
