Hi fellow brides and brides-to-be! Our wedding isn't until next May but so far I have booked our venue for the ceremony and reception, our caterer, and our photographer just to get an idea of how much money I have to spend. I'm getting a lot of snarky comments from people saying that I'm planning too early. I'm not sure if it's because I'm overly sensitive or that they're right. I think I'm just anxious about the whole thing. I have a very strict budget and by planning this sixteen months early I feel like I have a better idea of how much I want to save every month. Any thoughts or comments?

Nothing wrong with planning now. Get it all done, then you can sit back and enjoy the engagement.

    Hi!!!

I have always been a planner and loved having things done way in advance! We are getting married May of next year as well and have our venue, photographer, DJ, caterer and I also already have my dress. I personally think you can never be too proactive in your planning. The sooner everything is planned, the less stress you will have to worry about everything coming together!

No, you’re doing fine...it’s good to plan ahead. That way you can get it out of the way and it’s stress free. May is one of the busiest months that couples have their wedding.

Planning your wedding early is the best way for you to reduce the final cost of your special day. Depending on the vendors they might give you discounts or offer other things that might normally be an extra charge. For example, I became in engaged March of 2019. I also had my venue booked by April of 2019 even thou my wedding isn’t until April of 2021. Everything is planned out and all of the vendors have been booked. The only think we are working on is making sure all of the payments are getting out base upon our schedule and everything is paid for before the big day. This has reduced our stress levels and we are doing things on our schedule not the vendors.

I think this is great. We got engaged February 2019 and I started planning right away. We didn't book our venue until nearly a year later back in January 2020, but I was doing tons of research in the meantime and we got our house in between.

I don't think you should worry about it!

You better plan too early than too late right?

If you plan ahead you don't have to be worried about anything and you can be a relaxed bride!

Our wedding is next October and we have our venue, DJ, photographer and videographer booked. We got the “isn’t it too soon” question/snide comment but it’s really no one’s business.

We stepped it up when we realized some places were already booked and we wanted a one wedding per day venue. The others offered discounts so we pounced!

I think the earlier the better honestly. Weddings are expensive why not spread it out over time . My wedding isn’t until March 2022 and I’m starting now to help save down the road and reduce stress closer to the date. Do what feels right Smiley smile

Typically "Peak Season" is April, May, June, September, October, November and "Off Peak Season" Is December - March, July & August! Those are usually when the weather is best so many couples tend to lean towards those months. I wish I could of had an "off peak" winter wedding though! Unfortunately with my work, it didn't workout!

We got engaged in April 2018 and our wedding is this May of this year. I started planning in May of 2018. I had my venue, photographer, caterer and DJ booked by the end of 2018. I'm so glad I started planning early! It's helped plan our budget and made it easy to make adjustments where needed, and now we're down to the small details.. like décor and timeline... instead of having to plan/book a bunch of the wedding all at once. As it is, I'm starting to stress about the little details.. I couldn't imagine how much more stressful it would be if I hadn't been planning for the past almost 2 years. Take advantage of the time you have! You're definitely not planning too soon! There are so many things that come up as it gets closer that you don't even think of. You'll be glad you did all this stuff now and can focus on all those little random things!

I agree with you! We are already planning and not getting married until September 2021. Stick to your budget. We have to live after the wedding. By planning early, it will help us save more money!

My wedding is October 2021 and I’ve done the same thing. It makes it so much easier and less stressful. I would just wait to buy your dress is all.

You are right on track. You want to get venue's and the vendors tied down and booked asap. We booked our Venue in July of 2019 for a Wedding in November of 2020, and they were almost completely booked for 2020... Idk why people would be snarky with you.

We purposely were engaged two years to save money and then time goes by so fast that we put off stuff and now it’s biting us in the ass! Planning early is fine, as long as you stay on the things that change like possibly number of quests, changing line ups of parties. I went from a big reserved venue to a small one and it’s saving us potentially 8k!
