Planning too fast?

Hi there!
My wedding isn't until fall of 2024 but I feel like I'm already a good bit of the way through planning. I have a wedding dress appointment in 2 weeks and am checking out venues this week. My bridesmaids are all picked out and in a group chat together. I already have a catering company I'm pretty sure I'm hiring and am buying craft supplies to make decorations out of. I have already inquiries about djs, bakeries, photobooths, photographers, makeup artists, etc. I started wanted to know how much I should be saving up, but ended up putting all my free time into talking to vendors and actually genuinely planning everything. I know I have over 2 years and a lot can change in that time but... Please tell me I'm not crazy for starting so soon lol.

You’re not crazy! I am planning as well and I’m getting married in may 2024. It gives plenty of time to save and make sure everything is going smoothly. I feel like you feel less rushed giving yourself more time! Smiley smile

I'm gonna be the one that is different. If you know your dress style and what you want go for it. I am having a custom dress made and start the process on June 6th. My taste and style doesn't change much. I got married in 2016(now divorced and planning my 2024 wedding with different guy) and the dress I wore then I still love and is similar in style of what I am doing now. only reason it's not exact is well cuz that dress holds memories of my first wedding. You know you best and know how often you change your mind. I'd you feel that it's time to get the dress go for it. But if you want to wait that's ok too.

I think by planning this early you have more time to understand what you want. The downside is you have more time to overthink and doubt your decisions. Try to plan things that are not set in stone.

Thank you all so much for your responses! I agree it's probably too early for the dress BUT... the one I'm looking at is in a used bridal shop, so there's only 1. It's by one of my favorite designers. It's currently a size too big (probably haven't tried it on yet) but they said it could be brought down up to 2 dress sizes depending on where I'm at weight wise closer to my wedding. I'm not so worried about staying on trend as I feel the dress is unique but the shape is timeless. If I don't love it like I think I will I'll definitely keep looking. Thanks everyone!

Hi How are you and Congratulations. Before I was even engaged I bought my dress And booked most of my venues. I started in August 2021 was official engaged Feb 15 2022. By the time i was engaged most of my venues were booked wedding favors were bought my husband and my rings bought cake ordered welcome wedding sign made Bridesmaid gifts and robes bought and more. My wedding date is Oct 7 2023. And I'm so glad I'm done with all the tiny little things that make a wedding come together. Not to mention by January 2023 most vendors will be paid in full. I'm super happy and definitely not stressed knowing that we accomplished so much sooner than later. Now I can focus and enjoy being engaged to My Sweet Mario.
In short, it's never too soon to plan and pay for things when your the bride and groom.

I would only wait on the dress. Never too early to talk to vendors! Our coordinator posted on insta today that she already has dates booked for 2024! Especially if there’s vendors you know you want you should reach outPlanning too fast? 1

It's never too early to start planning!! I'm also planning my fall wedding in October 2024. I started in December and was just able to book a venue 4 months later. Dj's and photographers are already getting booked out that far. So I'm actually glad I started early. Besides the earlier you book, the more time you have to pay. Which is great for my monthly budgeting.

HI! I don't think you're crazy at all! Our wedding is end of next year and we started planning and hiring last year haha. Since we'll be paying for it we just really wanted to save up and know what we're working with. We started hiring the big stuff first at least like DJ, VENUE, Officiant, and now we're working on the caterer and bar services. It's always better to be prepared than sorry right?! Good luck with everything!

I started researching venues and caterers and dresses before and right when I got engaged. I had the whole thing set, I just needed to book the vendors. However, my fiancé didn’t actually agree with many of my ideas and so I had to start from square one. I assumed he might not want to be front and center in wedding planning but he actually had a lot of must haves and desires. I’m not sure if you’ve done all the planning with or without him but it might be too early for HIM to start wrapping his head around what he actually wants since it might seem far away for him even though it’s absolutely not too early to plan.

I like planning things so if it wasn't for the fact that I told my planner I wanted her to space things out, I would probably be mostly done already. I still feel like we've done a lot considering my wedding is over a year away. We have the venue and reception areas booked, I picked my dresses, we designed invitations & save the dates, we designed the ceremony space, I've picked my bridesmaids (but haven't asked), got their gifts, and we booked the photographer and videographer.

We are getting married October 5th 2024 and have the venue booked the date and have started to talk to caterers and to photographers. 1 we want to not be rushed 2 have plenty of time to save up money for the wedding we want and 3 with all the brides who were pushed forward from covid 2023 was almost always booked for the date we wanted at venues we looked at. You are not crazy! Maybe years ago planning a wedding in no time was possible but with the costs and the dates being full you need time!

Not crazy! Im planning my September 2024 wedding currently too! We're venue shopping still. Have already decided the DJ, Photographer, wedding cake bakery. My bridesmaids know and the groomsmen. Have ordered swatches for their bridesmaids dresses. Not crazy at all! Good luck!! ❤️

I am also trying to start planning for spring/summer 2024. I feel overwhelmed even though its 2years away. I think the biggest changes will be to the guest list. It's also hard to get a venue that far out many places have told me it's too soon.

Spring 2024 bride here 🙋🏻‍♀️ i also started planning already. so far i have put down my deposit on my venue and my photo booth (rest of the cost can be made in payments which is why i did this so early to not have to pay big chunks) i also have my bridesmaids, groomsmen, flower girls & ring bearer picked out. i think it’s good that you talked to vendors already! let’s you have time to decide on who would be the best fit. but i will say lots of past brides have told me to wait on looking for my dress . they said it’s best to wait about a year before the wedding as you can lose weight, gain weight, or even change your mind!!
