Hi there!
My wedding isn't until fall of 2024 but I feel like I'm already a good bit of the way through planning. I have a wedding dress appointment in 2 weeks and am checking out venues this week. My bridesmaids are all picked out and in a group chat together. I already have a catering company I'm pretty sure I'm hiring and am buying craft supplies to make decorations out of. I have already inquiries about djs, bakeries, photobooths, photographers, makeup artists, etc. I started wanted to know how much I should be saving up, but ended up putting all my free time into talking to vendors and actually genuinely planning everything. I know I have over 2 years and a lot can change in that time but... Please tell me I'm not crazy for starting so soon lol.

Hi there! Never too early to plan! We are celebrating our 14-year wedding renewal in the Fall of 2024 and have already selected the venue, booked the DJ, and come up with the theme, we even have our wedding renewal website up and running! I'm a planner by nature, I feel that the more you plan and structure the more organized the big day tends to be (just be cautious of your budget). Granted you should always factor in that some things can go not as you planned but that comes with anything you plan in life. Plus IT'S YOUR BIG DAY! The planning portion is one of the most exciting parts leading up to your wedding. The only thing I would wait a bit on is the Wedding Gown (would plan to look 9 - 12 months prior) other than that, I say plan away and enjoy Smiley heart

    Congrats to you! Smiley ring

Totally not crazy! I’m getting married September 14, 2024 and we already have the ceremony venue, reception venue, caterer, baker, hairstylist, photographer, and videographer all booked. A family friend who is a DJ is going to DJ the wedding. All that’s left is to slowly buy decorations, my dress, and his suit. Our centerpieces are also already done, attached a picture here 😆 have fun planning! Planning too fast? 1

Hey, girl! I don't think picking your venue soon is a bad idea AT ALL. I started planning in the summer of 2021. We are getting married in April 2023. However, I didn't buy my dress until April of this year. I took advice from so many married women who said not to buy the dress SO early. I think if you wait 12 months out to buy your dress, you'll find the newest styles and will have far less time to wait for alterations and such.

However, GO CRAZY and think about colors, songs, and and particular DJs that you love. If you have any MUST-HAVE vendors, I would say book them ASAP. Weddings are up over 100% this year and next year as well. Therefore, take your time, enjoy your fiancé, and save your dress for much closer.

    Congrats,

    Danielle

P.S. You are NOT crazy. We booked our venue in July of 2021, RIGHT after getting engaged. We are so lucky we snagged it when we did so that we aren't having our dream wedding on a Friday.

No your not crazy for starting too soon there’s no such thing!
I would have waited on the dresses for you and the bridesmaids but I guess better to be safe then sorry. Just make sure alterations are done right before your wedding day.

I’m in the same boat (wondering if it’s too early) and this thread made me feel so much better! I am getting married September 2024 and we already have the guest list (haven’t sent invites though), venues we like but can’t tour yet, color scheme, bridesmaids/groomsmen (haven’t asked yet though - we are waiting until the end of the year/beginning of 2023 to ask), and most controversial: the dress.

I was/still am a bit nervous about the dress; I made the appointment because my cousin from NY who rarely visits (i’m in CA) was in town and we wanted to experience it together. I thought I would just get an idea of what looked good on me, but I knew I wanted something simple but with a unique/modern twist. I tried on like 7 dresses, then put on “the one” and I knew. it was comfortable, flattering, made me feel like a bride, and checked every box on what I wanted. I was afraid about styles changing, but i’ve known what i’ve wanted for a couple of years (pre-proposal, lol) and I feel like the dress is timeless.
I also am going to start law school in August and it feels like a relief to start planning now, as I will realistically only be able to during winter/spring break and summer. Plus with all covid weddings getting pushed back to ****, I think it’s smart to make a list of what you like/want, so when you can book them (if you can’t already), you know you want them and can book ASAP to beat the crowd. best of luck and congrats!!

Just finished booking my venue and caterer. I’m also in process of setting up a date to go dress shopping. I think these are the biggest decisions in planning a wedding and the most stressful ones so I definitely don’t think it’s ever too early to at least book a venue. My wedding is May of 2024

Certain vendors that you want is good and that also save you alot of time to pay them. Unless some of the wanted a deposits up front but they shouldn't because it's far out. Dont book your florist because what may be in season now may not be your choice next year booking your venue space now is good you may get lucky a o great price. And getting your dress is in good timing but if there is any decor that you may want to try and get now because by it beginning wedding season now you will find alot of great deals. Get your invitations not until next year so you can look at hw you want designed and are yiubusing a church. Other than that you are good my year is almost done and 2023 will be here before you know it lol lol

Sorry this is off topic, but where did you get the lantern/candle holder for your centerpiece? I am looking for something similar and am hoping for somewhere with good bulk prices, lol. It looks beautiful!

Absolutely never too early to begin planning a wedding. We recently got engaged and we decided to wait until 2024 so we can save up more money and make the wedding less of a financial burden Smiley smile
This will be easy as we both have large life achievements beginning in 2023- such as graduating doctorate school and buying our first home!

So I think it’s a great idea to plan 1.5-2 years in advance if you’re comfortable with it!

I do not believe that it is too early at all. I am touring venues and contacting florists, Bar tenders, bakeries, and caterers for pricing options. We have a budget and I plan to stick with it. Official arrangements will be made at the beginning of 2023. I like to plan ahead with everything and come up with a financial plan. You are not crazy!!!!!

Our wedding is not until April 2024, and I already have my venue, photography/videography, DJ and Event planner. I even have my dress as of yesterday and I was only going to look at styles and see what they look like on me. Once the dress was on, I fell in love with it and put a down payment on it so I don't lose it since dresses can be discontinued. It is never too early to plan. I have my MOH and Bridesmaids and colors for them to choose a dress style with. I would rather take care of everything now, so I don't have to rush at the end.

Oh girl I am ALLLLL about planning early, much to the dismay of my fiancé LOL!! He keeps saying "oh we have plenty of time, we don't have to make decisions now," (our date is 12/16/23) but like many others have noted, folks that had to postpone during the pandemic are rescheduling now for this year, '23, and '24 already! We have our venue, wedding planner, DJ, and photobooth... next big decision is catering which I'd like to get settled in the next couple of months, then photography and beauty. Leaving flowers, decor, dresses etc. for a few more months... maybe! Smiley xd

Highly recommend waiting on the dress! Your own tastes might change as well as your body. My friend bought her wedding dress 2.5 years out and ended up changing her mind after a year and a half. It didn't feel like her taste anymore.

The rest of it, why not start early??

I'm getting married May 26th, 2024 and I have booked the venue and I'm getting ready to book the photographer and coordinator this month.
