Do they have 4 legs? Can you sit on them? If so, yes, you can use them.

In all seriousness, it matters that your guests have a chair, not what kind of chair it is.

What does the rest of the venue look like?

Honestly the most important thing about a chair to me is that it feels like it can support me without being rickety. Next I'd like it to be relatively comfortable, not hard. Plastic isn't an ideal choice, but it's not bad if the venue is casual.

The venue is outdoor, with the sea as backdrop. It is on a patio with tiles and all

I think it should be fine, as long as you're not concerned about any of your guests in them. I only say this because one of my friends who got married a couple years ago specifically had to get the non-plastic chairs because her husband is 6'7" and they were honestly worried the chairs would not support him.

We're using plastic chairs for our outdoor reception. I think it will be fine!

I don't see a picture. IMO no one cares about the chairs. As long as you have chairs it's fine.

With that backdrop, you can have plastic milk crates and it will look good. No worries.

I agree! Stunning location! I doubt anyone would care one bit about the chairs. However, if it worries you, you can always see if there's a local wedding rental company to rent standard wedding chairs from. .
