Plastic cups for cocktail hour/reception

Jessica, on October 26, 2017 at 8:10 AM Posted in Do It Yourself 1 12

Hello all, I am just looking for some advice on how many plastic cups to order for my wedding. I have having glass water glasses and wine glasses and remainder for beer and cocktails will be plastic cup with custom logo. I am just wondering how many to order. My guest list is about 130.....supposing maybe 110 will actually show up. Also, do you think I should get 2 different sizes for beer and liquor drinks?

I would get the same size for beer and mixed drinks. The normal red solo cup is a good size for both drinks. I would order double the amount......not everyone will bring their cup back to the bar.

Why are you using plastic if you’re using glass for the rest? Shouldn’t your caterer be providing all the glassware? Ask them when you have final numbers.

Yes, you should have a different size for beer and liquor.

2 drinks for the first hour, then 1 drink per hour after that.

Assuming a 4 hour reception would say 350 of each, but if you know you have way more beer drinkers than liquor drinkers you can adjust the ratio. Guests will not bring a plastic cup back to the bar to be refilled.

I agree with @jessie that it should be all glass if you're already using some glassware.

Like @H said, a variety of sizes are a good idea.

We used to recommend four per person; 9 ounce hard plastic clear cups. Don't bother spending the money on logo cups, honestly.

We are doing 12 oz cups for beer and 9 oz for liquor and then have wine glasses and champagne glasses--all plastic. Agree with not wasting money on the logos. Its not like anyone is going to keep the cups and it just seems like an unnecessary expense. If you buy reg. cups and have too many and they aren't open you could always return them or use them for something else.

Just watched a 4 weddings episode (we just started watching the series a month ago - so interesting to see what people find inappropriate). Plastic cups were brought up ... hadn't thought about the implications, costs, or counts of using them. Good question,

I'm not a fan of plastic cups at weddings. We're going to use them for welcome soft drinks/waters to take outside for the ceremony. You might find that renting glass through the caterer will be cheaper.

Call the venue and ask size limits. My venue requires 9oz.

They are cheaper at Sam's, without logo of course.

These are also a good price:

500 for $40 (that is including shipping). Sam's is slightly cheaper due to no shipping cost.

I would get 4 for every adult, esp since there are already glass cups for water.

We rented our dishware and glassware from our caterer who only provided one size of glasses and for the bar and refreshment table we purchased 500-9oz hard plastic cups for 200 guests. We still have extra plastic cups!
