Plastic or Linen Tablecloths??

Mallory, on September 15, 2014 at 12:07 PM Posted in Style and Décor 0 30

So I ordered a bunch of linen tablecloths for my reception. Now, my mom suggested returning them and getting heavy plastic ones so that I can save some money and so we won't have to worry about ironing each of the linen tablecloths. I've always kinda though using the plastic ones would be tacky but it definitely would save a lot of time setting up for the reception. Are you guys using plastic or linen tablecloths? Do you think plastic tablecloths are tacky for a wedding reception?

If it is indoors please use linen. It will look classy not cheap.

My automatic thought is tacky; plastic linens are better suited for a block party. But given more thought, it would depend on your venue and feel. Maybe you could get away with a heavier higher quality plastic. I would need to know more about the details to make a firm judgment.

Linen definitely has a touch more class than plastic. There's no doubt about it. That being said, if your tablecloths are polyester (likely) they really shouldn't wrinkle very much, if at all.

I do think the linens would look better and I already have them and don't want to worry about sending them back. I just feel bad for whoever has to iron them.

Linens for sure. Plastic is great for a backyard bbq, not a wedding.

Linen if at all possible. Also, we have 25 tables. My dear mother ironed them all about a month ago and stacked them on top of each other on a table in her house. She is planning on moving them the day of the wedding. It took her awhile but she did it well in advance.

BUT, our caterer said you can just get them damp and put them on the tables in the morning or evening before and they should dry wrinkle free. Haven't tried it, but that was their suggestion.

We are using plastic. I've kind of gone with the approach- if people are going to be judgy about my decor, they are there for the wrong reasons. Plastic is what fits in our budget, it will look fine. Would I prefer linen, yes. But, I'd have no use for 25 round linen table cloths and wouldn't be able to get them sold in my area.

Use linen; it's one of the least expensive ways to upgrade and they do add a nice look to the reception instead of just covering something ugly. Renting them should cost less than 10 bucks a table.

I think linen ones with fold lines are WAY better than plastic!

Iron your table cloths now! After you iron them, carefully roll them around a poster tube (or wrapping paper tube) and carefully put them in a garbage bag. Then it's done.

Linens...there is a renting options, and I have seen overstock.com & amazon.com specials all of the time. We had a bride a few years ago purchase 20 chocolate brown linens for her wedding. She had gotten such a great deal, they were less than renting them prices. You may just need to shop around a little.

Definitely linen. Or you may be able to get away with not having linens or plastic depending on the tables. If it's the standard round, half wood half metal base table, you have to cover it up.

I got our linen on sale from linentablecloth.com and they ended up probably the same price as heavy duty nice plastic would have been.

Plastic is only OK for something very very casual. Linen is the way to go.

Hi, Why don’t you try using spandex instead of plastic, I purchased it from sculptwareonline.com as we also looking for something durable and something that we don’t need to worry about.

I definitely think plastic is tacky, especially if you can afford linen.
