So I ordered a bunch of linen tablecloths for my reception. Now, my mom suggested returning them and getting heavy plastic ones so that I can save some money and so we won't have to worry about ironing each of the linen tablecloths. I've always kinda though using the plastic ones would be tacky but it definitely would save a lot of time setting up for the reception. Are you guys using plastic or linen tablecloths? Do you think plastic tablecloths are tacky for a wedding reception?

Please rent linens. In five years, when you're looking at your wedding photos, the plastic tableclothes will bother you.

I think it really depends on the type of reception. I went to one that was at a park, very casual. The regular guest picnic tables had a ticker plastic and the head table had a linen one that matched the theme. It really wasn't a big deal. If you already bought the linen ones, it may be cheaper to just keep them and avoid paying any return fees. Also, you can sell them after the wedding and get some $$ back.

    ^ What she said.

Also, individual plastic table cloths will have wrinkles from being in the package, unless you get the bulk plastic on a tube.

Its really not that costly to purchase table cloths and table overlays...I bought my overlays (organza and embroidered, 90x90") for $7.50 each and thought it was well worth it

Mallory I ironed SO MANY table cloths for my BFFs wedding. Did I hate it? Yes. But would I do it again? Yes. I honestly did not mind helping her out in any way I could. And when it came back around, I borrowed her table cloths and made her iron them for mine haha.

We're absolutely using linen; plastic reminds me of a kids party (in a backyard).

By "plastic" do you mean polyester? And by "linen" do you mean actual linen? Linen will need to be ironed, and that sounds like a huge pain in the ass for the morning of your wedding. Polyester tablecloths won't need to be ironed, and while they're not as nice as linen they are much better than plastic and entirely appropriate for a wedding. Plus they're much cheaper than linen and are more resistant to staining, so you should be able to reuse them after your wedding even if people make a mess.
