Plastic Tableclothes yay or nay ?

FutureMrsKing, on June 27, 2014 at 9:31 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 23

My mom insist going to the dollar store and just having plastic. I know it will save tons of money. I honestly don't want my wedding to look like a kids birthday party . If you used plastic how did it turn out for you ?

I bought my table cloths from the dollar store. I did a mock up table with it and I think it looked pretty good

It depends on what vibe you want for your wedding. If it's a more casual event with BBQ plastic linens might be the way to go. If you are having a more formal event they might not give off that vibe. For my shower (which was pearls and lace) they used decorative plastic tablecloths that were baby blue with lace detailing and white ones. Those probably aren't found at the dollar store though.

I went to a wedding recently and I thought the plastic table cloths looked cheap. That and a few other things screamed budget wedding. Maybe if other things are quality and look expensive you could pull it off. I'm having a budget wedding too, and the low cost of plastic tablecloths are tempting, but...I can't.

Tiffany, I'm curious how you pulled it off? Do you have any tips or pics you could share with us? Linen table cloths are super expensive - waaaaay outta my budget! I'm going with one of the discount sites that sell the polyester table cloths ($3-$5 each). Other WW brides give them good reviews.

I'd say nay. Honestly, if you do... say white tablecloths and find a colored runner they'd probably cost total per table about $10 a piece if that.

Also, check out the FB ww bride2bride page or craigslist. They might be selling tablecloths more affordably. When My wedding is over I plan to sell my tablecloths and overlays to recoup some money back. So all in all it won't cost much per table at the end of the day.

If you don't really want plastic, check Walmart--I saw some tablecloths there that have a heavier, more cloth-like feel, and were still quite affordable: 50x108" for $3, and then you can cut them to size.

Here's a good example. Smartyhadaparty sells their 90in round for $6.40 a piece or a little less if you do in bulk of 24. It might not touch the ground but neither will plastic ones. AND on top of that you can request a 5 dollar coupon on their FB page (saving is saving even if it is a little!). They have sales too so sign up for their mailing lists. Smiley smile

Then you can get a colored runner or organza overlay (link for example) for cheap (~$1-3)!

    Nay.

Have you checked CL for linens? That's where I found the majority of mine for $125.

I didn't like the way plastic looked, but I ordered Linen Like paper cloths...They even sent a swatch before I ordered.. The ones I ordered are a little over $3 each, but I think they'll look good.

I wouldn't use plastic tablecloths unless you were doing a very casual, backyard wedding. If this is an indoor reception, I'd bite the bullet and get the fabric tablecloths. What size and shape tables are you using, and how many tables do you think you'll be having? Color?

I used plastic table cloths that I bought from Orientaltrading.com. They were cut to look like lace and they didnt look bad at all. I mean, yeah you could tell they were plastic when you were sitting at the table but that's about it. they werent as cheap looking as the dollar store ones or rolls of plastic.

    1. Look in the background, you can see the table cloth.

I bought the white ones and used flower petals instead of a runner and set up my center peice. Idk maybe to someone else they still looked cheap but I thought the table decorations drew away from the table cloth

I found an aqua-colored paper tablecloth that looked like watered silk and felt like cloth. Fortunately, I only needed one (for our vow renewal), because it was rather expensive for paper. But, I knew I'd have no future need for a linen tablecloth in that color.

I think plastic tablecloths for a wedding look cheap... sorry to say it. They belong more for backyard BBQ's. I have a nice plastic one, with a cloth backing and even though its sort of tough the top part(plastic) still gets tears in it. I would splurge a bit and rent the nice kind.
