Plastic vs linen

Karie, on April 28, 2017 at 11:33 AM Posted in Style and Décor 0 30

So, we are having a shabby chic wedding in October. I was planning on just using plastic tablecloths on the guest tables, but I cannot decide. I would really like to use real maroon linen napkins though. Would this look odd with the plastic tablecloth?

I plan on having ivory table covers, kraft paper table runner with real cloth dollies on top. For the centerpiece I am having a piece of slab wood with a lantern and a jar of flowers.

What do you guys think about the plastic/linen combo? Should I just shell out the extra money to get all linen?

Pictures for reference! More in comments!

I was wondering the same thing. Our first round guest list we made has 300+ people so I thought linen would be outrageous. I found this website Gifts International that is so cheap I wasn't sure they were legitimate. I ordered like $20 worth of items from them including 1 table cloth and 1 pack of linen napkins. I wanted to see their quality and if they were a legit company before I ordered more. I haven't received them yet but the tracking says they are in packing. I will let you know but I have included the website just in case you want to check it out.

No plastic. IMO it would be tacky. We use plastic table clothes at school dances.

I would go all linen, will definitely add a nice touch. Plastic is a PITA too, if I'm being honest.

The quickest way to deplete the special nature of your wedding is to use those plastic tablecloths. Even ivory bedsheets (flat) are a better idea than plastic, and in stores like Walmart, you can get them pretty inexpensively. They'll work well with the long, rectangular tables you're using. I don't know how sturdy craft paper is, but anything that's made of paper is going to degrade quickly on a dinner table filled with people and glasses of liquid. Why not just buy real burlap instead? This will elevate the entire look.

I went with the Kraft paper because I am not a huge fan of burlap.

ETA: Its actually pretty heavy paper

Please, please do not do plastic. @Cathy? Get rid of 100 guests before you do that.

Plastic TC's will never look like that inspiration photo; they will look like a 6 year old's birthday party, and your theme goes out the window.

Do a plain white TC, layer it with kraft paper (I like that look personally, I don't even know why) and do real china. When all is said and done, renting china is not that much more than classy dispoables.

Sounds like you're leaning toward the real linens - I firmly agree with that decision.

You can rent linen tablecloths and napkins too. Is this a possibility in your area?

I ordered through tableclothfactory.com and it was not a whole lot more for poly linens than for decent looking plastic...

Linen tablecloths definitely. I wouldn't mix linen and plastic, that'd seems weird to me. I also don't know about any kind of paper for runners.

Runners are meant to be decorative but on a dinner table they're going to get wet and icky.... I'd skip the paper.

You can buy both linens and runners way cheaper then you can rent them. Try linen tablecloths.com or smartyhadaparty.com.

I feel like plastic would be a little tasteless and I immediately think of a birthday party.

    All linen for sure.

I suggest linen. Try tableclothsfactory.com. Cheap linen, you'd just have to iron them ahead of time
