Plasticware?

It's-A-Love-Story, on April 24, 2016 at 8:27 PM Posted in Style and Décor 0 26

We are getting married next month outside in the mountains. Our caterer provides paper products for the BBQ we are having. I don't like paper plates. I thought of renting some China. But then again, it's BBQ. What do you guys think about the plastic plates? They're a little more sturdy than paper. But is that tacky?? It would be so easy to have something disposable. As our venue doesn't have an actual kitchen. And anything besides disposable, we would have to rinse somehow.

You can get some plastic wear that looks real at places like party city. That way you could still throw it away but it's nicer than paper plates.

I got some heavy duty plastic plates at Sams Club. We also got the silver silverware that looks real, but isnt. No one is going to remember what kind of plates you had lol.

I don't think this is something to stress about. You can get plastic that looks nice enough. Honestly, do you remember the plates from the last wedding you went to?

Agreed. Get he nice quality ones you can throw away. Sounds silly to say good quality then trash but they will be study and keep guests clean and then no worries for wash up!

You can definitely go with disposable plates for a bbq reception. Just make sure they're sturdy enough to hold up to the food.

The only reason I remember plates from the last wedding I went to was because they were cheap flimsy plates and mine crumpled under the weight of the food!

Seriously, don't stress about plates! Heavy duty paper or the real looking plastic are both good options!

Costco and Sams Club have really pretty plastic wear. If we choose a venue that allows us to bring in our own catering we are doing q food truck and using plastic and paper ware.

Are you having rustic decor? If so I say go for palm leaf or bamboo. Here's a little mock up with my bamboo plates.

Here's an idea that I'm using for my own wedding when I get married. Go to a local store like Salvation Army or other antique and consignment store and pick up some cheap dishes. Then you can use the plastic ware that is actually silver or gold as your cutlery. Then give your guests the opposition to either keep they're plate or put it into a bin and your can either donate it back( which if you get a receipt you can get a tax refund on) or for you to use at home. Now I know what your thinking...how are we going to wash them. Sticking with the rustic mountain theme. Get 3 metal or plastic tubs that hold water and can be painted or kept plain and fill 2 of them with plain water and the other with some sort of dish soap. Wash a dish like a pioneer. Then you can always find tea towels cheap and on sale to dry then with... And reusing news paper and plastic bags to wrap them up eliminates waste and helps the environment. I know it seems complicated but I promise you someone will look at that dish ever time they see is and remember your amazing wedding.

I'm using styrofoam and plastic silverware. I don't think (well, I'd like to think) that no one will care about what plates and silverware you will have. Plus we wanted to save money.
