Plate taste changed

Bride2Be, on June 4, 2021 at 1:17 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 12
Ok so back story- my dads aunt bought the plate set we originally put on our registry before covid happened (it was a 4-place setting) and we had to post pone the wedding and she told me to keep them as a Christmas present instead of returning them (so nice!) and we’ve been using them at our apartment and our wedding was postponed 2 years and my taste in plates has changed and I really want a 12 setting set from a different store for when we move into a house after the wedding. Is it wrong to add that set and remove the one she sent from the registry? Or should I just leave the new sets off completely and just buy them on my own when that time comes?

So you already got that gift on your registry right? Why is it still on the registry if it’s already been bought? Sorry I’m just confused

I'm also a little confused by that. If it's already been bought, then it shouldn't be on the registry anymore unless your requested amount wasn't fulfilled.

I don't see why you can't take off the first set and have the new set on there. Since it's a set for 12, which you really need if you plan on entertaining guests a lot. You could always tell her that you plan on using the set she bought you for everyday use, and the 12 setting set for parties and large gatherings.

It just shows up that it was purchased like the other few gifts that we’ve bought off there since haha

Oh ok, so yeah I would completely remove it. It shouldn’t be an issue since you’ve already received the item so it doesn’t make sense to keep it on there.

Am I supposed to delete it off the registry? I thought things just stayed on there and are just shown as purchased when people buy them. That’s what it shows when I go look at it.

If it shows at purchased then your guests will know it's been bought, but yeah in that case you can def. take it off completely since it's already been bought!

I was just confused! The way it was worded made me think it was still on the registry as 'not purchased'!

Thanks I figured since it was like a year ago it makes sense to take it off and add what I want now! Thanks so much!

Add the new ones and take the other off.
For everyone asking why it would still be on there - often people want multiple sets of a place setting, so it stays up until all if it is purchased. Lots of people will purchase one setting for a couple. It’s also nice to have it up so if anyone wants to get something else from the same pattern, they know which one it is. For example, a serving platter that matches.

If you do not want additional place settings of the original, take it off.
Add any different one you want. Most people have 2 different kinds of dishes, so it is fine to keep both up till you gets 4 more place settings of the original, and 12 of the new one.
