Plated catering options for Indian-fusion Wedding

Shashank, on November 9, 2019 at 12:16 PM Posted in Illinois Planning 0 6

Hi,

I am not sure why but my fiance and I are having a hard time finding a caterer who can support some type of a balance between a couple Indian dishes and American food for our wedding. One would think like a diverse city like Chicago, there might be some flexibility to mixing up food options by the traditional caterers but no. We are looking to have plated dinners at our wedding with a steak, chicken and an Indian dish as an option. For the Hors d'oeuvre a couple Indian food options would be ideal. If anyone out there has experienced anything similar, and can provide any advice, my fiance and I would be highly appreciative.

Thanks

Meredith & Shashank

You may have explored these avenues already, but I used to work at a hotel that did a lot of Indian weddings and Indian fusion weddings all the time, unfortunately not in Chicago. But have you asked your wedding venue for their recommendations? Maybe they have done an Indian fusion wedding in the past?
Is there a Chicago wedding planning Facebook group? It might be worth posting on there too.
You/your fiance might consider talking to people in your local Indian community (family? Friends?) and ask what other people have done.

Also you might be looking for a catering company, but I remember most of the caterers of the weddings at that hotel were Indian restaurants. Have you thought more along the lines of restaurants? Indian weddings I saw were not small, they were feeding 400-600 people, so you might be surprised what a local Indian restaurant has caterered, especially in a city like Chicago!

Hey there Shashank! Welcome to the WeddingWire community! Congratulations on your engagement!

Have you had the chance to check out the vendor search tool yet? I’ve started a search for you. Here are the Chicago Wedding Caterers that list Indian food as one of the cuisines that they provide.

Hi Shashank! We're doing a mixed American Indian wedding too and had similar issues finding caterers who did both. We just hired Chic Chef and would recommend them. We did our tasting last week and the food was great! They skew more Northern Indian but have room for customization. We ended up adding biryani, sambar and a few other options.

A couple others we looked into: Ashyana Catering (so many different Indian cuisines and lots of options for American), Entertaining Company, BellaRu, Gaylord, and Mantra.

Thank you everyone for taking the time to respond. We have a tasting with J&L catering and they were able to incorporate some Indian dishes. So there is still hope. I’ll reach out to chic Chef too

I've heard good things about J&L! They were out of our budget otherwise we probably would have gone with them. Best of luck!
