Plated vs Buffet

Natalie, on December 6, 2024 at 12:36 AM Posted in Planning 0 1
I've always wanted to do a plated dinner for our wedding. However, it would cost us $2,300 more to do a plated vs buffet-style dinner. We did request formal attire and are getting married on NYE. In my mind, formal always equated to plated dinners. For the buffet, they would have servers plating the food for people as they walk through the line, and we do have a larger wedding of 160 guests. I want to really treat my guests, but am having a hard time justifying that big of a difference in price. Would doing a plated meal be worth that much of an additional cost?

If you are having a formal wedding, then yes, I think a plated meal would be expected. Formal attire means women are in long evening gowns and usually heels, so traversing a ballroom in a long dress, heels, and a plate of food could be a recipe for disaster. Based on the number of people, the cost equates to only about $14 more per plate per guest.
