Platform/wood aisle for beach ceremony.. see pic?

Soon to be Mrs. Z, on August 21, 2012 at 3:06 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 1 10

Hi all! My fiance and I are considering doing a beach wedding next year. My concern is the sand, though, and walking in it. I'd prefer having something solid to walk on. In 27 dresses she has sort of a platform almost looks like its made from pallets. Does anyone have any suggestions a platform/wooden aisle? Thanks for your help!

My first thought is a prop shop or a local theater if you have on in your area. If you can find pallets they make work too, but you would probably have to sand them or paint them to make them pretty.

Hey Mikala, Congrats. I think finding something like that might be a little hard. Have you considered a grass mat? Here is a pic for you to get an idea of what I'm talking about. Good luck. Smiley smile

Wow... my first thought is that it sounds like a lot of work to create, bring out to your venue, put together, break down, take home and then get rid of after the wedding. I had nothing close to a wooden platform to bring along, and we still had 3 car loads of decoration items, vases, beverage servers, linens, tulle, flowers, beer&wine, etc, etc, etc.... So, before considering the logistics of how to make one, I'd think about the logistics of storing and transporting it before and after the wedding first.

Why are you concerned about walking on the sand? Because of wearing heels? I'd just go barefoot, or go with a blingy flip-flop.

Pallets are pretty rough, so I agree you'd have to do a lot of work, and the boards aren't spaced as close as that all the time, you'd have to be really careful walking on it. However, I do recall I really loved that in the movie! Also you want to make sure you wear flats, as your heel could get stuck in between the boards!

I like the grass mat idea! We've used those for beach lounging before. Notice all the little rocks in True Love's picture? Those are likely there to keep the mat from blowing around- which is a great idea!

I dont want to go barefoot so all my girls and I are wearing wedges. another concern is I HATE sand. lol I was raised living at the beach so our wedding is in my hometown Manzanita on the oregon coast. As far as storage.. Local friend owns lumberyard so I can get pallets from them im going to estimate about 10 pallets? I dont need to worry about bringing deocr my wedding planner is doing all my flowers, sashes ect. So it would be a quick drive to deliver the pallets once painted. We can also have a giant bonfire the night after and burn them! Smiley smile or save a few for our backyard..

I have this exact idea running through my head! Did you do it? (Do you have pictures?) What suggestions do you have if you went an alternative route?

Depends on the beach, but city ordinance where we're going is just that nothing permanent can be done to beach, only real flowers and petals are allowed, and everything has to be cleaned up and gone when we leave.

So I'd love some sound, affordable advice on how to make this happen.
