Plus size "bride tribe" or bachelorette party shirts

Amie, on June 27, 2017 at 9:29 AM Posted in Community Conversations 0 25

I found some shirts that I love for my bachelorette party. Everything I'm finding only goes up to 2XL and I have one person who needs a 4XL. I can't find somewhere with sizes up that high. The only option I can come up with at this point is to have her wearing a different shirt than us and I don't want to do that to her. Anyone have any success with matching regular and plus size shirts like this?

Please no to the different shirt. Speaking as someone who has been that girl no one wants to be the one not matching in photos - it's pretty humiliating. Maybe I'm biased since I'm not much for Bach parties but I really would forego the matching shirts if leaving one BM out is the only option.

Did you try contacting the seller on Etsy to see if they can special make you a 4XL shirt?

@Desertpolarbear. I completely understand that, and I'm really trying to avoid it.

I would suggest DIY. You can find tshirt transfer sheets on Amazon to print out your own pattern, or find some on etsy already pre-printed. You could purchase plain shirts and then transfer the pattern onto the shirt.

I can imagine with such varying sizes it could be difficult to find the same exact shirt in all sizes. At least if you DIY (very easy!), the prints will be consistent and your friend wouldn't feel out of the "tribe".

There are some etsy shops where you can buy the stuff and iron it on whatever shirt you want. I would check that out next if the other shop cant accommodate.

Depending on how crafty you are, you could always do an iron on yourself and just get tank tops of different sizes.

As cute as 'bride tribe' sounds, and as overly PC as this might hit you, I have had a professional group I belong to taken to task for using that term outside of the context of native American social groups, and after being educated it makes perfect sense.

As others have mentioned, definitely don't have her in a different shirt. Find a company who can accommodate the size you need or just make your own.

If the shop Kate linked doesn't work I would suggest messaging other Etsy shops that carry plus shirts, but maybe not a 4x. A lot of times they will accommodate you. Good luck!!

I honestly think the matching shirts and things of that nature are overdone. You want the BMs to be comfortable, but maybe this isn't a type of shirt someone who is 4X wants to wear.

Instead of putting her in something different (I would NOT do that), skip the shirts. Let everyone wear something black and the bride can wear white. You can add accessories if it's really necessary (it's not).

It's the same thing with the getting ready robes. Not everyone is comfortable in slinky satin flowery robes, nor are they meant for every body type to wear... It just feels insensitive to me, especially if I had a BM that might not be comfortable in tank tops.

Thank you for all your help ladies! I found a shop that had a 2X that's measurements are a little larger than some other shops and will fit her!

@Vicki- I asked all my girls if they would prefer to pick their own outfit or wear these shirts. We are all pretty low maintenance and would prefer to be in jeans and not think about outfits. All the girls agreed they loved this idea so they didn't have to worry about the outfit for the day. Everyone including the girl wearing the 2X has assured me this is the way they would like to go.

Etsy sells all sorts of decals. It's easier than you think to produce something with them. That way you can find a base shirt in sizes that will fit all of your tribe without worrying about excluding anyone. (It also ends up being a little cheaper to DIY)

I got decals online and then went to Walmart. It was about $7 per shirt and o could choose the colors and placement

I make shirts, and if those tanks are the "next level" brand, they run EXTREMELY small. Just FYI, My BM who wear L/XL, needed the 2X in those tanks, and they were super small. I am normally size small and the medium was tight on me.

Definitely ask the etsy seller for the brand! Bella Canvas tanks are more flowy and go up higher in sizes.

Please let adults wear their own clothes. @Vicki and @Kate make excellent points. If you must have that cutesy photo can you get matching accessories like feather boas or glow bracelets or something, and just say to wear something they already own in black?

I'm not a fan of the term "bride tribe". I'd never heard it before joining these forums.
