Plus size dress in a few months?

Sarah, on October 16, 2019 at 1:15 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 27
Am I crazy to think I can get a dress in 4ish months time? Every place I've reached out to say it will take 4-6 months. Does anyone have advice or success stories on doing this? Being a big girl I don't think I will have a lot of luck buying off the rack.

Not crazy at all. I ordered a dress from David's Bridal and picked it up in just a month. Their website has a section for "ready to ship" I believe. I would also look into Azazie if you need one soon and on a budget. Good luck!

Check places like FB marketplace, StillWhite, Poshmark and Mercari!
I bought my first gown brand new with tags from a bridal store on Still White, and the only alteration it was going to need was shortened. I actually found a different dress that was more what I envisioned and am now selling my original one. Being plus size, I was so afraid I wouldn't find a dress I felt beautiful in, but there are some great options out there! And with the internet, shipping takes such little time!

You can! I'm plus size (wedding dress size 22, pant size 18), and I originally bought an off the rack at a local shop. I wound up returning it for a better dress that had to be ordered. It took 3 months to get my dress. You can shop online, too. Like cocomelody, they do great for plus size brides.

I typically wear an 18/20 so I'm guessing I'd be closer to a 22 in a dress. I am going to get measured this week. I know from calling around most shops have size 12 to try on. Trying to find a shop with bigger sample sizes. This is a great suggestion thank you Smiley smile

Keep in mind, the samples won't fit (unless it's off the rack) but you can still see how it will mostly look on you. I'll attach me in my dress's sample (size 14) and me in my dress (bust and waist still need to be brought in). If you have never tried on dresses before I recommend going in somewhere to try some on before ordering off line. All the styles I thought I'd rock and love.... I hated. I loved what I thought I'd hate on me. So definitely try some on before ordering off line so you know the style you want and how it looks on you. Attached are pics for reference so you can see that a sample will still give you a good idea.

Yes! you totally can get one in that period of time. I'm 5'2 260 lbs size 22 dress, 20 pants. I was originally going to buy one off the rack from David's Bridal that fit perfectly. I ended up wearing one my step mom bought in a size 3xl from the Wish app that also fit beautifully. Here are my outtakes. The first three dresses are from DB, they would not have needed ANY alterations and they had them in my size in stock that day so I could have taken them home that day if I wanted to.

You totally can! I don't have any experience from bridal salons because I didn't end up going to any, but I did go into David's Bridal and find a dress more or less off the rack! It came in two weeks, but it really depends on the color/styles and what they have in the warehouse that all of the dresses ship from.

I'd try David's Bridal. Some of them are awesome - mine was - and they had plenty to choose from as well as samples that were actually TOO BIG for me. I'm a size 22 bridal as well lol. One of my bridesmaids got her dress from Poshmark, but I just wanted to order a new fresh one. That's just me though.

My dress is Stella York (and oh boy do I recommend that brand for fellow plus brides) and I ordered it in mid-February with an estimated arrival in early June. It arrived in mid-May. So I think 4 months is fine even for a special order as long as you’re up front with the shop

Plus a lot of brands can guarantee a delivery date for a “rush fee.” While the fee is often hundreds of dollars, I’ve also heard it be much lower ($50-100).

Thank you!!! I'm still in shock that it literally fell into my lap a week before my wedding.

Have you considered a consignment store? They allow you to take the dress home the same day. And because they get dresses from brides who are all different sizes, you don't have to worry about dresses being limited to a few sizes.

Definitely Azazie...their try at home option lets you select the size you try on...some are available up into the 20's. I went with their custom sizing option, so it was made to my measurements, but probably would have been around 22-24. Allow a week or so for each round of try at home, then looks like most of their dresses have a 4 week production time right now.

I ordered my size 20 dress at David’s Bridal. They quoted me 2 months, it came in just 2 weeks. Don’t panic. You have plenty of options. I would definitely not put it off any longer though.
