Poc-owned Wedding Vendors?

Katelyn, on June 1, 2020 at 9:25 PM Posted in Planning 3 6
Hi! 👋🏼

Former 8/23/20 now 8/22/21 NYC bride here! As someone about to marry a black man, I am obviously very invested in what’s going on right now, and what we can do to show love and be more supportive of POC.
While I have already blown up social media, lost a ton of followers, and donated to local bail funds, and I think it would be nice to support some local POC owned businesses.
After seeing a google doc about NYC Restaurants, I have put together a google doc of wedding vendors that are owned by POC.

If anyone you’re working with has been great, or if you have friends who own a business, please share. 🖤

There is a Netflix show called "Trigger Warning with Killer Mic" featuring rapper Killer Mike of Run the Jewels, and in one episode Killer Mike tries to live exclusively off of black owned businesses. It's eye opening - I definitely recommend giving it (and the whole show) a watch.

Anyway, in the episode he meets with a man who founded the website We Buy Black ( www.webuyblack.com) and it features all products by black owned businesses, artists, etc. It's not wedding specific, but you might find some wedding favor type products or everyday use items (from face masks to toothbrushes) on there. It's worth looking into if you want to support black Americans via more than just blackout posts on social media.

Thank you for putting together that POC-owned wedding vendor resource. If I know of anyone getting married in the NYC area, I'll definitely share it with them!

Here's the link for anyone interested - keep in mind it isn't just black-owned businesses, because we started this list about 2-3 weeks ago, so there are some other POC owned businesses as well.

We've gotten a ton of recommendations over the past few days, and there are only 4 of us who can edit the doc, so we'll be continuing to add to it. If anyone here has any vendors they want to shout out - send me their info (my insta is on the doc, you don't have to follow to DM me, I check requests daily).
