Polaroid Guest Book

Shelly, on October 15, 2020 at 2:36 PM Posted in Planning 0 18

Has anyone done this before, or been to a wedding with one? Our friends had one at their wedding and it was a really cool idea! Just wondering how successful it was for you!

I am planning to do one! I absolutely love pictures, so we thought it'd be a fun idea. The only thing I'm concerned about is replacing the film when the instant camera runs out. I don't know that too many guests will be able to figure out how to replace it on the spot, so I'm going to ask one of my friends to keep an eye on it and replace the film as needed (and/or take the pictures for the guests).

Oh awesome! That was a concern of mine, and your idea sounds really helpful for that! Having someone take them would be great too because then you won't have guests taking all of their pictures home.

We'll probs get one of our friends to swap film and take two pics of each person/group. One for the book and one to take home if they want one!

I forgot to ask, do you already have a book for them? If so, did you get just a regular guest book to tape the photos in, or a polaroid guest book with slots?

I like that idea!! I had intentionally bought extra film just in case, but will probably end up buying even more because I like your idea of taking two photos of each: one for the book and one for them to keep. The instant cameras could also be used as a DIY photo booth lol.

I bought a regular guest book! Either tape or glue (haven't decided yet) will be on the table for everyone to use to secure the photos. I got the regular book instead of the Polaroid book so that they could write messages below the pictures, since the pictures are fairly small. And also because I love the book I found lol. This is the guest book I bought: https://smile.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B07G3HJ36Q/

It's a great idea! But Polaroid film doesn't last that long before the picture fades. Maybe your photographer's second shooter could film them and add the pictures to the signed pages afterward?

Actually, the new Polaroid film doesn’t fade like Polaroids of the past! As long as you store them in a photo book, away from sunlight and humidity, they will last just as long as any other type of picture Smiley smile

We are having a photo guestbook as well! I bought a TON (300+ photos) of film for it, which will now all expire before our reschedule date- thanks covid! 🤬🤬
I hadn’t even thought of putting someone in charge of changing out the film- that is a great idea!

Ahh that's a bummer! Is there anyway you can return the film? Not sure what store you bought them from, but I know Walmart takes just about anything back lol.

Ooh now I have a dumb question... Film for the instant cameras expires?? I didn't see anything on the packaging for the film I bought, how long is it usually good for?

It does! There should be an expiration date either on the outer cardboard packaging, or maybe on the plastic packaging around the film itself. The film is typically good for 2 years after its manufactured- so you really have to rely on the expiration date the manufacturer gives.

Dang, I was going to go ahead and start buying film here and there until our wedding date (1/29/2022), but now I think I'll wait a little bit! Phew, thanks for the heads up!!

Yeah, I would definitely wait until a few months prior to your wedding to start purchasing the film

Yikes!! Mine will be expired for sure by the time my postponed wedding date arrives in 2022 lol. I'll use the film I have for teaching my friends how to use the camera and swap out film, or maybe some other photo project in the next year. Thanks for the info!

You bet! I’m glad I could help :-) You definitely don’t want to load expired film – it can ruin a Polaroid camera!
