Polaroid Guestbook

Maui K, on March 2, 2017 at 12:17 PM Posted in Style and Décor 0 15

Is anyone doing a Polaroid guestbook or have you been to a wedding that had one?

I was going to get a fujifilm camera but the photos look really small. Also, I'm thinking about getting 2 cameras to set at the guest book table; we have 55 guests coming.

Do you have any suggestions?

I'm divorced, tbh. But, did this when I married EX-H.

Looking back, it was a waste of time and money. We never looked at it. And, a lot of people didn't want to take the time to do it. The pieces fell off over time, etc.

It's not even something I considered doing now with FH, nor had it even crossed my mind until your questions.

I thought about this but it is EXPENSIVE for a guest book! A guestbook wasn't super important to me, so I opted for something simpler but just as a thought each of those cameras runs $80-150 and each pack of film is like $18 for 10 or 12 pieces of film..

My friends recently did this at their wedding and everyone loved it. We're considering doing it at ours...just not sure if we can fit it in!

They had easily over 100 guests and just had one camera and a bunch of film.

Honestly with 55 people I think you're good with just 1 camera. They did fujifilm too I believe.

People did group shots and most people just hung around doing other things while they waited to take a picture.

I went to a wedding that had this, and I would advise if you do go this route to get extra film. A lot of people ended up taking more than one photo because they "messed up" or "didnt like how it looked".

Like other pp said its expensive, and remember that Polaroids to tend to fade/colors warp over time. We are doing one of those frames that you drop the little hearts that people sign into.

I think this is a cute idea, but you should plan for it to be very expensive... Polaroid film is expensive. Also plan for guests to take multiple photos and keep a couple for themselves, so have extra film.

Thank you everyone! I know that the film will be expensive, but I feel like I would actually look at this guestbook or set it on our coffee table, unlike some other guestbook options.

Is there anyway to preserve the photos so they don't fade over time?

@Maui K - something simple and pretty! I like the wooden slates with the names/initial that are simple and common on here, or something from peachwik.com.

We both want something that's timeless and we can hang to display in our home.

I don't want to turn you away from the polaroids, but it is truly pricey, and just collected dust. Being honest!

Fujifilm is 2"x3", wallet sized. The film is expensive and I'd expect people to use more than one film due to mess ups or wanting to take one home.

FH & I planned on doing this, but mainly because I'm obsessed with pictures.

If you are concerned with size, actual Polaroid cameras still exist and are being remade by "The Impossible Project," who also sell the square film. I'm pretty sure Polaroid/Impossible Project stuff is significantly more expensive.

Both of which can be found on Amazon.

Another option is getting just a printer that hooks up to a smart device. I have an off brand version of this, https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1094159-REG/vupoint_solutions_ipwf_p01_vp_photo_cube_mini_printer.html , that you take a picture on say an iPod or phone set up specifically for this so the guests can see the picture before they print. Saves you on buying more film for the mess ups.

You could also buy Polaroids SNAP digital camera that is like the Fujifilm instant camera, but with a screen to see what you just took and allowing you to chose if you want to print or not.

    https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01LWV127J/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pC_nS_ttl?_encoding=UTF8&colid=1BZ212NZU6OQP&coliid=I3JQ124GCTHK37&psc=1

Regardless, they're all going to be expensive.

And I saw a tip to get a larger guest book and write on the tops of most pages with something along the lines of "there's plenty of room to leave us a longer message" for the people who don't want to take a picture, or people who think they just tape a picture in. Treat it like a regular guest book, but with some visual aid.

Not 100% positive, but the new instant film doesn't fade like the old ones. I'd have to look into it more. If you do the digital camera that also prints, those pictures are saved on the camera too, and you can print those like regular pictures later on. Just make sure you have a decent sized memory card in it.

ETA: No problem! I love this kind of stuff. There's plenty of instant film products, make sure to explore.

We are doing this but with our photobooth photos. We get unlimited prints of photos so they can take some home and glue some in a guestbook and write a message.

I went to a wedding that did this a few months ago.. it wasn't a huge hit. People either didn't want to take photos or took a bunch of photos.

Also, Polaroid film is also a sticker.
