Poloroid Camera Photobooth/Guestbook

GummyBearSTL, on December 4, 2016 at 2:41 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 12

I'm thinking about doing a diy photobooth with a instant-photo with maybe using their photos as part of a Polaroid guest book.

1. What type of camera would you recommend?

2. How many prints per guest/social unit? (guest list is 170)

3. Anything other advice you have?

I have the Fuji film instax mini 8! It's really easy to use, especially if your reception will be indoors (the automatic setting it goes to is indoors, so you wouldn't have to switch exposure setting). Just make sure you have a framed list of how to's! Especially "take a photo less than 4 feet away" and then how to reload film, which is super easy.

I would recommend having a photobooth attendant. Polaroid film can be pricey, and if you have little kids they can go through it quickly without supervision. Also, at least from my research, Polaroid cameras cannot be attached to a remote clicker so without an attendant it would be more of a selfie station.

Have more than one. H and I went to a wedding with one a few weeks ago and it took twenty minutes to get into the reception venue. The line was huge.

I went to a wedding where they kind of did this. You took your photo and replaced on a clothesline where everyone's name tag with seat number was hanging. It was a cute idea but honestly, the area got SUPER clogged because everyone was trying to do it at once.

A friend of mine did this and it was really cute, but it took a long time to get through the line and things started late. Have someone designated to take their pictures so film isn't being wasted, and it helps things move faster. What they started doing at the end was having the person taking photos go through the line and take the persons photo, and hand them the picture so that part was done when they went up to stick it to the book and write the note. That cut down the line a bit.

Hm. It's definitely things to think about. It's looking like it's going to be roughly $300 for materials (if I'm estimating correctly for film) but that's not including a DIY backdrop. FH thinks it's photobooths are over done... I more or less wanted it as part of a guest book... I suppose I still have some time to decide.

Get extra film. One of my favorite photos of FH and I is from his friend's wedding last year and I liked the Polaroid so much I took it. And then took another to put in the guestbook. And then another because FH's eyes were closed.

Maybe try and find someone to take the photos for you with their camera and then you could print at a later day and send with thank you notes.

Definitely get extra film. Also wouldn't hurt to have 2 cameras.

I would rent a booth that prints emails and texts pics. It's about 600. If you can. It's a great thing to have. It's a blast! And you can have it for a few hours.

I'm glad I read this!! Smiley smile

I was wanting to do a Polaroid guest book myself, but after reading this, I have decided that maybe we will just have someone taking pictures as the guests come in, and we can put the pictures in the guest book ourselves.

I did this at my wedding and used my Fujifilm Instax mini. We bought a bunch of film on Amazon, pens, fun washi tape, and a blank personalized guest book on Etsy. We didn't have an attendant but it worked out great and we love looking back on the fun pictures of our guests!
