Porta Potty at Wedding?

TugBride, on January 29, 2017 at 10:45 AM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 72

FH and I found our location a beautiful little bridge that we just adore. Problem? No bathroom anywhere near by. So obviously our only option is to rent some sort of potty. We are on a pretty limited budget for the wedding, fortunately we saved a ton when we found out our venue is free. However it seems that potties are incredibly pricey (at least in our area) especially the nicer you go. Since our wedding is so small (maybe 40 people) we didn't see the need in renting a fancy(ish) potty trailer since the cheapest we have found are well over $1,000! Would it be tacky just to get a regular potty? We know our guest pretty well and they aren't the type to turn their nose up to this kind of thing. Should we rent a potty with the sink inside or a separate portable sink. I don't like Porta Potties as is much less the thought of using the sink inside one even though I know it will be fresh when we get it. I think people would feel more comfortable with the separate sink right?

I've been to wedding with the fancy toilet trailers. They are very nice. I got a quote on one and it was $950. I couldn't justify it. If you think your crowd will be fine with regular porta pottys I say save the money.

Is the bridge the location for both the ceremony and reception? Or just the ceremony? Depending on how long you are out there, you may be able to get away with no potty... Just warn your guests ahead of time and they can use the facilities at the reception.

Regular portapotties are gross and I definitely wouldnt want to use one while wearing a nice dress/suit.

Honestly, I would not want to use a regular port a potty wearing a nice dress. Once I had to go to the bathroom, I would probably go home.

I agree with PPs. I don't mind them when I'm running a race but if I'm dressed up in formal attire at wedding, I would be pretty annoyed if I had to use one. I would go for the nicer toilets and cut out unnecessary stuff in your budget.

SoontobemrsS: Yeah that's kinda why we didn't want to spend the extra money on a really fancy one. They are really expensive and however I really don't want the most memorable thing about our wedding to be the potty...

Private user: It is the location of both the ceremony and the reception. So unfortunately we are pretty stuck with having to find at least one option and I really don't want people peeing in the bushes lol!

Beachdreams: Our wedding is pretty informal, I mean the wedding party will be dressed up but we don't expect anyone to be in black tie attire. So I am kinda hoping people wouldn't feel that bad about it. Also the one we are aiming for is really only used for weddings/special events. Not construction sites.

They are really disgusting, sorry. If this is the location for both ceremony and reception, then you should budget for the fancy trailer.

I'm with @Beach. If I get dressed up to attend you wedding, and my only option to pee is in a gross portapotty, I'm out of there, because god only knows what the reception will bring.

You lost me at porta potty.

You can do what you like, but I'd recommend letting guests know in advance (by word of mouth) if there will be a porta-potty so they are prepared.

Even if it isnt black tie, if I'm attending a wedding I likely got my hair done, I'm wearing makeup, and I'm probably in a nice dress. I wouldn't wear a ballgown to a park wedding, but I will still look nice. Don't let your wedding be remembered as the stinky portapotty wedding.

That's what we did and it was fine. It was brand new and bigger than regular ones, and I put flowers and eucalyptus inside it and lined tiki torches on the bath to it. Not ideal, but you have to work the best you can with a budget. The cheapest trailer in our area was 1500, since the nearest rental place was 2 hours away. It bummed me out, but it served it's purpose.

Is your ceremony/reception completely outside? Do you have a plan B in case of inclement weather?

We're also having to do portable restrooms. Fancy trailer is the way to go imo. More expensive, but your guests will have an exponentially better time. And honestly...do you really want to pee in a port-a-potty at your wedding? You're gonna have to go, too.

No portapotties!! Splurge on the trailer style ones or expect people to bounce ASAP.

Yeah I am not entirely enthused about a porta potty either but with such a limited budge we don't really have the extra $1,000 plus dollars for it and the delivery and removal. Also kinda concerned with the potential lack of enough power sources (if they need on - assuming they do).

KimmyinJapan: That's what we were going to spring for is something that isn't your standard potty. I was thinking of using succulents for the wedding and thought they would be cute inside, and then some sort of sent, did the eucalyptus help with the sent?

Chaos05: It is however we were planning on tent rentals for "just in case". We were aiming for doing something like a separate tent for the potties away from everyone so they aren't a complete eye sore.

If it's within budget, definitely get the trailer type...your guest will appreciate it!!! If not...at least have the separate sink n make sure everything is as clean/fresh as possible. Looks like an Oct wedding do you shouldn't have to worry about it being too hot n humid, at least.

Heads up to everyone. The inside of the toilets may or may not have power. I put a battery operated light on the ceiling of the one I rented. Also, no one left early. We had good food, alcohol and a temperature controlled tent. In fact, people stayed later than they said they would and the first person left at 11.

Not to be judgy but you have like 20 months until wedding. Would you be able to save enough for nicer ones before then?
