Porta Potty at Wedding?

FH and I found our location a beautiful little bridge that we just adore. Problem? No bathroom anywhere near by. So obviously our only option is to rent some sort of potty. We are on a pretty limited budget for the wedding, fortunately we saved a ton when we found out our venue is free. However it seems that potties are incredibly pricey (at least in our area) especially the nicer you go. Since our wedding is so small (maybe 40 people) we didn't see the need in renting a fancy(ish) potty trailer since the cheapest we have found are well over $1,000! Would it be tacky just to get a regular potty? We know our guest pretty well and they aren't the type to turn their nose up to this kind of thing. Should we rent a potty with the sink inside or a separate portable sink. I don't like Porta Potties as is much less the thought of using the sink inside one even though I know it will be fresh when we get it. I think people would feel more comfortable with the separate sink right?

@SoonToBeMrsS I don't agree with postponing the wedding over a toilet, but I 100% believe that guests will be grossed out about having to use a porta potty. Either figure out a better bathroom situation or find a venue that can accommodate your guests with a not-disgusting place to pee. I am not the type to nitpick at all, but it feels like common sense to me that a porta potty doesn't belong at a wedding. I wouldn't even go to a restaurant that didn't have a real bathroom to use. It's a wedding...not a petting zoo.

@t rex that holds true for a bathroom with plumbing or a fancy toilet trailer. People know what goes on in a bathroom. What do all you people do when you go to a bar with people who puke and piss all over the place? Lol this is too entertaining to me.

"It's crazy to me people are suggesting to post pone the wedding over a toilet LOL! If it was she couldn't afford food that's one thing"

SoontobeMrsS if she can't afford decent facilities, she can't afford her wedding. Plain and simple.

OP, how are you paying for catering?

@soontobemrss I wouldn't use it. And are we really likening a wedding to a nasty bar? I wouldn't want porta potties at my wedding. Neither do a lot of people here. OP came asking for advice and she got it.

This is an item that you splurge on. Get the fancy trailer potty and everyone will be happy. I would be pissed if I went to a wedding and had to use a festival type port a john. Puke

My point in postponing the wedding isn't just about the bathroom. She posted about the financial difficulties they're having, her OP not working due to an accident, and being in the middle of a lawsuit. This extra $1000 for bathrooms shouldn't break the bank when planning a wedding nearly 2 years from now. If she honestly can't come up with a way to get the nicer facilities in 2 years, I just don't think it's a good idea to have a wedding until she has some wiggle room in the budget.

I say save up for the nicer potty. One of my friends was going to have one porta potty at her wedding/reception but her mother in law was like no way in hell im using that and paid for the nice ones and honestly... that stands out when I think of their wedding. Especially since one person drank way too much and spent a good 30+ minutes puking in the bathroom and that would have sucked with one porta potty... not to mention the inability to flush... blech.

You have a lot of time. Budget in a sanitary bathroom or look for a different venue

I mean we are having a hard time with a tight budget and we do have wiggle room but with all the uncertainty we would rather budget tightly then be over zealous if a regular porta potty would do the trick then I can't see the means going completely out of my way to pay well over $1000 for a place to pee. I could easily save $700 plus dollars by just getting a nice model potty and a sink. I just can't imagine paying for what some women pay for a dress, or a photographer, or a caterer for a potty when I could spend half that and have more money in case something else goes wrong. I didn't really think it would be such a memorable factor in our wedding. I would hope that people including my future husband and myself would remember our wedding for the flowers, the feelings, the nice view, and the speeches vs the basically brand new porta potty they may or may not use. I really appreciate everyone's response. I will definitely discuss this with our guests to make sure I won't offend anyone.

As for the food we were going to pay for catering and for it. The plates, flatware, and set up, food and other such (including our cake) is $1,000.

Agree with Elizabeth if you are having so many financial hardships i highly suggest sorting that out before planning a wedding. The Porta potties should be the least of your worries at this point. Postpone it until you get on track

I wouldn't want a regular port a potty in dress clothes. What about you in a wedding gown? No thanks

@AK gotcha. That's what happens when you try to do too many things at one time.

I think you should skip it altogether and go for a trailer. Maybe pick up a side job to pay for it or something. The toilets at a wedding aren't memorable...when they're not portapotties. I would definitely remember going to a wedding and having to use a portapotty. The smell would kill the vibe.

Just thought about my older aunts who are heavy and have knee problems. I can't imagine them getting into a little porta potty without cursing a lot. I don't know your guests but if you have anyone older or overweight, it might be extra uncomfortable for them. I am glad you're revisiting this with your FH. I hope you guys come to a better solution.

Well OP it sounds like your mind was made up before you even posted this so I'm wondering why you even tried to seek advice.

I'd take a squat in the woods before using a porta potty

SoonToBeMrs - Rarely do I go into a bathroom and have to see other people's poop.

And I don't go to bars in which the bar owner/manager doesn't keep a clean restroom. What kind of places do YOU visit? Lordy.

    Edited for spelling.

Is there a house nearby? I went to a wedding where they had golf carts take us to the nearest house people were renting (who were at the wedding) to go pee. Just a thought..
