Portable bathrooms

So I'm having my wedding in my parents backyard and they don't want everyone going in their house to use the bathroom, which i don't blame them. But i think having a port-a-potty is gross and I would hate to have to force my guests to use it, but all of the bathroom trailers I have seen are like 500...

I definitely can't do multi-day music festivals where the only bathroom is a porto pottie, they get so gross. I will always upgrade to VIP if it's available, mostly to use the trailer bathroom. I enjoy myself more if I don't have to think about going into the dirty smelly small potties.

But I don't think we can really compare this to a music festival. It's a wedding for a couple hours. The potties will be brought in clean at the start of the event, so I don't see how they could reach music festival dirtiness levels. I do agree that OP should upgrade to something with a sink, handicapped porto potties sound like a step up. She just has to know her crowd. Are people really going to dress up in heels and cocktail dresses for a backyard wedding? If there is a dress code, I would say no porto potties. But if people are going to come more casually dressed, it shouldn't be that big a deal. Trailers are obviously better but if it's not in the budget, I don't think a nice clean porto pottie will be a disaster. OP, can you afford something with a sink at least? Have you compared the price of your rentals to an indoor hall where stuff like this is included?

We had one of the trailers at my bff's wedding and it was great! They are very nice inside, not dirty at all. They were a little ways away from all the festivities, mainly so they weren't in any pictures.

Please rent the trailers--most of them have toilets that flush and sinks with running water. It's not much better than and airplane bathroom (although bigger and with better lighting) but it is worlds better than a porta-potty. And this is coming from someone who has gone in more porta-potties than I can count at athletic events and won't hesitate to pop a squat in the woods if there are no bathrooms nearby.

When originally planning for the in laws back yard I knew we would need portable restrooms. There was no way in hell I was going to cheap out. It was going to be 500-700 for a really nice one with enough stalls. If this is your option for a venue I would go the trailer route and cut back some where else.

@Lauren yes a matter of fact i cant find 500 for a trailer, i am working part time and going to school and my FH has a great job but we are paying for it all on our own, i don't appreciate the way you stated that.

I can save 5000 which the majority is already accounted for in food, dress, flowers, tuxes, tent, music, alcohol, center pieces and so on. I have to cut as much costs as I can but like I said when it comes down to it im going to try to get a trailer

    Try...... wow.

A reasonable bathroom is not something you try to get for a wedding. I totally understand your parent's reasoning. This needs to be a priority for your guests. I cringe at the idea of going into a portapotty for a festival in everyday clothes. I would be pissed if I had to dress up and found out a portapotty was the restroom I was expected to use.

Why not change your date to off season? You can get some great deals and still have a wonderful wedding. Depending on where you live, November, for example, is off season but still (typically) nice enough for an outdoor day wedding.

I would cut centerpieces before I let my guests use a port a potty. How many guests are you having?

We are using the trailer bathrooms. Thankfully my cousin owns the company, so we're getting them at a steal. Ours have 3 stalls per trailer and they are real toilets that flush/sinks, not just open holes. Granted they still collect in the bottom, but your guests don't have to see it. It's worth the splurge in my opinion!

It's true I don't know your situation but if you are saving for this wedding and have plenty of time to save, $500 can be done.

And you can still have it at your parents house.

And your guests won't have to use a porta-potty in a wedding outfit.

BUT ARE YOU GOING TO USE A PORT-A-POTTY and if you aren't why would you even consider having your guests do so?

sorry to yell but I really want to know

I'd hate to force them, but really I will because I'm more about centerpieces than my guests comfort. But don't worry, I'm totally special and won't go through the discomfort of using one myself. Here's a tip - do not treat your guests differently than you treat yourself. i.e. no special bar or meal, access to proper bathrooms while they can squat on a port-a-potty...

Maybe it's just me (it's clearly not), but if it's formal enough for the men to be wearing tuxes I would think guests shouldn't have to use a restroom that is literally a hole that get filled up with everyone else's shit. I really tried to think of a nicer way to word that, but no.

People are so rude on this site, I was just asking for experiences and I don't intend on using a port-a-potty, i just wanted to hear what everyone else's experiences were. There is no need to be rude and your right you dont know my situation so how dare tell me what I can save and what I cant!

    Everyone on here is stupid.

They make really, really nice, clean, high quality portable toilets.

Just because you're thinking of a construction site, doesn't mean you're right.

I don't know what happened here, but we had portable toilets and it did not "make or break" our night, they were really nice, flushed, with sinks, etc.

Very common, just get nice ones.

However, I seemed to miss that you will let you & your friends use indoor toilets?

Nope. Everyone uses the same ones. I even used the port-a-potties. Because you know, they were clean. And had lighting. And fixtures. And flushed. And were frankly nicer than half the venue bathrooms with stalls I have seem. So.
