Possible to DIY Flowers for Out of Town/Semi Destination Wedding???

Paige, on August 10, 2014 at 4:30 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 9

My wedding is taking place 4 hours from where my fiance and I live and we don't have any personal connections near the venue to set up camp so I'm not sure putting together my own floral arrangements is logistically possible. I've found a wholesale flower market in the nearest big town (Austin, TX) and I know a few DIY brides who bought their flowers there and they turned out great. However my concern is logistics. HOW??? Has anyone done, or know anyone who has done their own flowers for an out of town wedding?

Should I save myself the hassle and use silk (eek)?

*My bed and breakfast room has a big dinning table in it and a refrigerator.

We're using a wholesale florist and she's packing our stuff in a large ice chest, since it'll be delivered a few hours before the ceremony even starts and our entire venue is outdoors. Maybe an option for you too.

My friends daughter got married last August out of town. They bought the flowers that Friday from a wholesaler and they set around Friday night and put together flowers. If your bridal party isn't huge this could be an option. It was a good time for everyone and made many memories. Good Luck!!!!

Knowing that I don;t do well arranging flowers to begin with, there are to many what if's for me to think that it's a good idea to try that. What if they get squashed. What if they are to hot or to cold and fall apart or wilt? What's the back up plan if you get there and they aren't in good shape? Personally, I would find a florist. If you had absolutely no way to work with a florist, I would see about silks, or those wooden flowers or even some other non-floral centerpiece.

I am having out of town wedding as well and doing own flowers. I am picking up some specialty flowers from wholesale on Friday, then purchasing roses and other flowers from local grocery store when we arrive. I called store and pre-ordered flowers. We are putting together in my hotel room.

We are having some flowers ups's in to our lodge we are staying at (DW) and we are also running to sams club to get some for the tables. Should be an experience because their is a holiday in their and the location won't hold flowers in their fridges or anything...so its about storing in fridges and getting things at last minute.

We are using silks and transporting! I'm not having a single real flower so....I guess I'd see if they would hold the flowers in the fridge for you.

I bought a really pretty faux flower bouquet from Michaels (i just thought the flowers and colors where pretty and it might be a good reference) for like $5.00.

Maybe you can do that for the bridesmaids and then only spend the time before the wedding on making yours with real flowers from a local grocery store or floral shop. You can Youtube it and find a lot of videos.
