I've seen postcard save the dates before - definitely not tacky in my opinion. STDs tend to be a bit informal - magnets, postcards, etc. MOO.com can do postcards pretty cheap, and I've seen some people talking about groupons for Vistaprint.

I've heard people on the boards say that the postcards can get damaged in the mailing system because the post office put markings on them. They were recommending putting them in envelopes to keep the image from being altered.

I think postcards are a great idea and not tacky at all. i used VP for my bridal luncheon invitations and everything came out great. if you link through the retailmenot website, most items are 50% off. but $10 sounds smart to me!

I made them and was nervous about them getting mangled in the mail but they were kept in great condition from what I saw with our friends. Just make sure that you leave space around the edges so they can add the barcode (you only need it on one side if I recall).

Postcards are fine, but you don't HAVE to do STDs at all.

Don't do postcards but only because they do get ruined in the mail...I did them and the machines at the post office put a huge smudge down the middle and my face got messed up on some of them. If you do want to do the post card format I suggest putting them in an envelope so they don't get messed up

We are doing larger postcards and are paying I think $10 more to have the thicker heavier glossier paper (all from VP but the larger ones I believe are 24.99 and the extra weight was 9.99.) we have a groupon that was 17 for 70 so we are definitely coming in pretty cheap! Plus there are tons of blogs regarding VP where you can get 2 free items (we are doing the stamp - with our married names for the thank yous and have not decided on the other yet). Postcards are fine in the mail as long as you leave enough area around for the postal service information. Also, you can ask for them to be hand cancelled (and would HIGHLY suggest this as for the invitations as well)!

    Good luck!

We did a large sized postcard. Got a good deal off VP and it was super easy to make. We used one of our engagement photos. We also had no problems at the post office. I asked them to hand cancel them just like they do for invites.

We did post cards with our pictures on them, and they came out great and didn't suffer too much damage in the mail. I say go for it!

I got mine from vistaprint for $10 for 100. You can get 100 envelopes for 6 bucks too. I'm putting them in envelopes so they don't get destoyed in the mail like others have said.

    Postcards are just fine.

Just FYI, if it's bigger than 4x6 you pay regular postage. :/

We did post cards. We got them hand cancelled so they didn't get that barcode along the bottom. None were ruined that I have heard. Great way to save a few dollars!

We did postcards. The ones we saw at people's houses after going through the mail looked fine (even the ones that went to Canada from NJ).
