Post-wedding nightmares?

OriginalRandi, on January 4, 2016 at 1:18 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 15

Last night I had a nightmare that even though we were already married we had another wedding (I was panicked that now guests would only remember this new one and not our beautiful November one I loved so much).

It was officiated by a priest we didn't know, with his hair sprayed into a tall hard cone on top of his head. We didn't know our bridal party and they were arguing over where to stand during the ceremony, which was held in an undecorated barn.

Oh yeah, and I mooned some guests on accident because my dress was short and apparently I wasn't wearing underwear.

Plus for the honeymoon we went somewhere where there were just a bunch of toilets with dirty clothes and poop stuck in them.

So yeah, pretty sucky. Now I'm laughing at it, but I was inordinately relieved to wake up and find it was only a dream. Has anyone else experienced this or am I going crazy?

Haha, not married so can't provide any input but that sounds really miserable. Glad it was a dream!

Hahaha that is a good one! I tend to have vivid dreams so I have already experienced a post-wedding dream (nightmare?). Not as good as yours, but the night after our wedding I dreamed that the perfect wedding was a dream and that I was still planning and that everything I had worried about was starting to happen, like people getting stuck in storms, people going to the wrong church etc.

I actually never had a pre-wedding nightmare. Only nightmares after the wedding, like that I forgot to talk to someone, or I had unintentionally snubbed someone.

    It was awful lol.

I had a TON of post wedding nightmares. I was like reliving our night over and over again but having the same things continue to go wrong. I hated it. It lasted a few weeks- and then they finally just stopped!

I totally want to see his hair in a cone shape. I haven't had any post-wedding nightmares...weird. ALSO, I was thinking about this yesterday- did you ever find your ring? I never saw an update but I've been on sporadically because of Christmas.

I had a couple nightmares after the wedding, while we waited to get our pro pics back.

In one, they sent us a folder of prints that looked like a drunk 5-year-old had been set loose with a disposable camera.

Oh man!! No so far.. This dream sounds hilarious and terrifying all at the same time. I can imagine the feelings during the dream, but to be able to wake up and laugh about it later is great.

Not married yet but I just had a pre-wedding nightmare this past weekend. Was getting my hair done and chunks of hair kept falling off my head, the stylist was in a panic and I just started sobbing because the more she touched my hair the more hair fell out. AHHH glad I woke up and realized it wasn't real life.

Not so much as nightmares but a deep remorse that wakes me up in the middle of the night and doesn't let me go back to sleep. I keep thinking of all the food that went to waste and how I didn't even get to try any of it and didn't even tasted my cake after shelling out thousands of dollars.

My husband and I are very happy and satisfied with the event and our guests loved it... hope our honeymoon will take that feeling away. Otherwise I'll go insane.

So glad I found this and I’m not alone - it stands to reason that this would be the case scientifically, though - dreams are our way of processing our issues - I had no nightmares in the run up - I reckon because I was trying to bury my stress and just get on with it, but in the aftermath my brain is allowing me to process the pressure I was under - it’s a little like how you process trauma - most folk forget it, and it comes back in little drips and drabs after the fact - little bite size chunks of trauma we are able to cope with, often in dreams. Just goes to show how much pressure the whole planning process was putting on us. My wedding day went phenomenally but I have now murdered both my mother and my husband in different dreams because it’s pre-wedding again and both of them (only in the dream) are putting severe pressure on me, inviting cousins I haven’t seen in over 20 years and turning up with a ripped, unironed suit they want me to fix, and I snap in every dream and accidentally kill them. They are lovely in real life as well 😂
