Post wedding videographer question/concern

Hi everyone- I’m posting this here because I’d love the support/feedback. I got married at the end of May. I have been waiting for my wedding video since then and have gotten no updates or anything. In the contract it said the full film should take about 6-8 weeks to be done but I’d get a teaser before that. It hasn’t been the full 8 weeks yet so I really haven’t been worried about it. They told me they only take 15 weddings a year to really focus on the film and individualize it. I saw on Instagram that they posted a wedding they filmed right before mine so I thought “great, mine must be coming next.” However I just saw that they posted another wedding they did in June and upon further investigation the bride posted the teaser on her Instagram that they provided her with less than two weeks after her wedding (yes I went stalker mode looking into this lol).

I can’t help but feel hurt and kind of upset that the couple after us has gotten their film already AND received their teaser less than two weeks after their wedding, when I have received nothing. I paid over 5k for their services but I’m left wondering if they didn’t prioritize my wedding because it wasn’t flashy or cool like some of the other weddings they have filmed (and they have a huge social media following). Due to covid we had to change everything about our wedding including the size and venue and it wasn’t as much of a party feel as it originally going to be. I guess I’m feeling insecure because although my husband and I enjoyed our wedding, it wasn’t the wedding of our dreams due to the replanning and it was much more of an elopement-backyard wedding. I feel like given the videographers popularity they’re not caring as much about mine.
I need advice because idk if I’m just being dramatic. My husband says technically they’re not doing anything wrong because it’s still within the 8 week period. Any advice is welcome!

I understand being impatient -- I went to a wedding on May 16 and the couple are still waiting for their video. But unfortunately, it's still within the contract timeline, so the vendor isn't doing anything wrong. It's possible that other couple ordered a smaller package with a shorter video, or fewer hours, so theirs was quicker and easier to edit than yours. Just hang on tight, the 8 weeks are almost over anyway 🙂

I would wait until closer to the 8 weeks. I would be upset too - but - we don't know the logistics of the other weddings - maybe they were shorter and the videos were easier to make? Maybe each employee is given a video to work on and some employees are quicker than yours? Who knows - all very situational. But for sure, your feelings are valid!! I'm sure your wedding was still beautiful and best part, you got to marry your best friend!

Yes you’re totally right I don’t know what the situation is! I’ll work on being patient and then worry after the 8 weeks haha. Thank you for your reply!

You’re totally right about it being within the 8 weeks time frame still. I’ll take some deep breaths and not get into my head too much about it until then haha. Thank you for your reply! Smiley smile

Have you inquired with the vendor? I would ask when you’d expect to receive the teaser and let them know you are excited to get your full video in a few weeks.

I don't know if this will ease your worries or not, but here it goes:

My husband is a wedding videographer (cinematographer, really). I admit he's a bit of a James Cameron type - a little bit wacky artist.

Sometimes, a particular wedding "vibes" with him better, and editing comes easier. It isn't necessarily that it's a better wedding. He had one wedding that was in the groom's backyard with an iPad for a DJ and catered by the local grocery store, certainly not some platinum black tie event (and it wasn't some raging party, either), but it so happened the fence surrounding the backyard had bright hand-painted murals the groom did himself - something about that just vibed with my husband, and he had that film edited in a week because he was just glued to the screen and couldn't walk away from it. That's just one example I can think of, but there certainly were others - a microwedding that had a 7-minute ceremony also comes to mind. Again, nothing "Instagram worthy" about this wedding, but it just clicked for him. Conversely, he's had some knockout $75k weddings that took every minute of 8 weeks to edit because nothing sparked.

You know when you read a book and you just can't put it down? And other times, you struggle through it, not because it isn't a good book - all your friends raved about it - but just because it isn't clicking for you for some reason?

Artists can be odd. There may have simply been something in that other wedding that struck them and editing it came easier. That doesn't mean that wedding was better than yours!

Be patient and don't stress! They have a big job - creating a video that you will love, and hopefully watch together when you're 80 years old with your grandkiddies on your lap. Smiley smile They just want to make sure it's perfect, and sometimes that takes a little more work.
