OMG! I took my invites to usps and bc they are not completely flat they said the machine would rip them up and thus they need to be mailed as a parcel! $2.45 per postage. I knew they would be more but not that much more. lol. There is a small rhinestone clasp on a ribbon around the invite and bc of this its costing $2.45. I know this is my fault but I just wanted to vent about the cost of postage which is unbelievable to me. The invites are already done and sealed so it would be counterproductive for me to open them back up and take off the rhinestone clasp. What did you guys spend on postage? Was anyone else shocked?

UPDATE: So I went to 2 more post offices to see what they would say. 1 post office said my invites should be considered a large envelope .92c but the only way for me to get a refund is to go to the original post office . The 2nd post office first said .68c first class then changed it $2.45 after I told them about what the 1st charged at the first usps...ugh. overit!

I had 55 invitations, I spent about $100 total for 55 invitations (44 RSVPS). Plus 11 RSVPs with Canadian postage.

I didn't think it would be that much either @heather! We did magnets STDs and because they were .69c each and then for my invites they charged me $2.45 each!!!! I couldn't believe it but what can you do? @Dreamer we did the same for rsvp's. Thank goodness I didn't have to buy those stamps! I didn't think to request hand canceling. You would think for $2.45 an envelope they would do it automatically since mine were sooooo "unmachinable." lol. I may actually take them to a post office tomorrow just to see if they can hand cancel. @crazyinlove<3 it certainly does add up. Just glad I'm done and all i need to do is drop these bad boys in the mail! @Margaret does handstamping cost more?

I purposefully looked at simple invites so postage would be as cheap as possible. There's a way online you can see postal rates for different sizes/weights. I have a high quality food scale at home that I used to weight my STDs before taking them to the post office so I would have an idea of what I was getting into.

@kisha I took one of my invites to the post office and had them weigh it to see much postage I would need. Then I bought the stamps based on that.

@PaQuita Thanks!!! That makes me feel like maybe just maybe the postage was worth it. lol. I hope thats what people think when they receive them!

OMG now I am freaking out. Mine already have stamps on them and weigh the 2oz for the stamps on them. We have a stoned starfish on ours. I hope this doesn't happen to us.

@Jennifer fingers crossed for you! I hope your's are fine. I did just look up usps criteria on stamp refunds. If I can prove they charged me the wrong amount they will give me a refund so I'm going to 2 different postal locations tomorrow and see what they say! I'll be sure to post an update!

We spent however much a normal stamp costs. But, I really wanted to make sure that our postage wouldn't have to go up and I chose my invitations accordingly.

I spent $20.00 and had some stamps left over. My invitations were regular letter so size so there wasn't an extra charge. Also I invited a lot of the elderly women and couples from our church. They wanted us to hand deliver them to their homes. So we arranged delivery dates and times and had a wonderful time. I didn't have to cook dinner for a week LOL. The rest we mailed.

Can't you just buy the postage and put it on yourself?

Mine were boxes (message in a bottle) and were $2.45. I knew they would be a little more because in wasn't an envelope, but ouch!

@Future Mrs. V Yep. Thats pretty much my plan. They told me I needed 2.45 in postage so I needed four stamps per envelope. @kelly this is what is crazy to me. my envelopes are the same price as your whole box...something seems wrong here but maybe not. idk. lol.

Cute invites! I haven't done mine yet, but I'm definitely thinking it should be that much for me. Mine are pretty much flat. It sucks it's costing you so much extra to mail them!

Spent about $40 sending out 100 STDs. I expect to spend about $50 sending out invites just to my side of the GL. FH just sent 2 stacks to his dad and maternal grandma instead of taking the time to get addresses and mailing them out, he's basically allowing them to choose who they invite to the wedding in his family. Its outrageous but its not my problem.

I might be the odd man out but considering the postage includes airfare, vehicle transportation and hand delivery, it's still a bargain. I just sent work 1/2 around the world and it cost me less than $20. That's a bargain!

Mine are square so I think that costs more.... I found this online about hand cancelling... see if this changes the price they quoted:

I don't remember a total for ours but we specifically made certain choices to make sure ours would be under 1 ounce so that it just took 1 regular stamp per invite.

I'm so glad to see this post. We have to send about 100...which should cost more than $100 to do including the response cards. I was thinking about adding a bling jewel to our ribbon but after this post, I will do no such thing. Love my WeddingWire community!

I haven't gotten to the postage part yet (still waiting on mine to be finished from the invite place) but I had a sticker shock moment. My wedding coordinator sent me to a nice local place that sells invites. She knew my invitation budget, which was $800. In my head, I was like "whatever. I'll come in waaaay under budget for that! That's effing crazy, I only need 50 invites". So I go to my appointment there, and I like the first invite I see. The girl tallies up how much it will be, including my 20% off discount I get because of my wedding coordinator. It's $1800 FUCKING DOLLARS. I looked at everything else in the store. I didn't really care for anything else. So, I, being inexperienced and feeling pressured because of my time constraints, order the damn invites. But I did away with the inner envelope and did 2 ply instead of 3 ply. So that saved me a little. A tiny amount. Yes folks, I paid $1300 for 50 invitations. They don't even look that pricey IMHO.

The next day I told my wedding coordinator. She said "yeah, that happens a lot in that store" and shrugged her shoulders.

Ummmm why the hell did you send me there then?????????

I don't even GAF what the postage costs at this point. I'm so over this.
