OMG! I took my invites to usps and bc they are not completely flat they said the machine would rip them up and thus they need to be mailed as a parcel! $2.45 per postage. I knew they would be more but not that much more. lol. There is a small rhinestone clasp on a ribbon around the invite and bc of this its costing $2.45. I know this is my fault but I just wanted to vent about the cost of postage which is unbelievable to me. The invites are already done and sealed so it would be counterproductive for me to open them back up and take off the rhinestone clasp. What did you guys spend on postage? Was anyone else shocked?

UPDATE: So I went to 2 more post offices to see what they would say. 1 post office said my invites should be considered a large envelope .92c but the only way for me to get a refund is to go to the original post office . The 2nd post office first said .68c first class then changed it $2.45 after I told them about what the 1st charged at the first usps...ugh. overit!

Last year I had a friend who went through a similar headache with postage for their invites. She had ordered custom postage in what she was told was the correct amount and then told it wasn't enough. She had to add additional postage next to her custom stamps and was PISSED about it. Because of her experience, I decided to go with a flat card so there's no surprises for shipping and skip a personalized stamp because most of our fiends trashed the envelop/invite anyway since she had everything on the wedding website.

Luckily, ours are just the invite, rsvp, and mail back envelope. So postage for STD, invites, and thank you is at $94. ETA: Your invites are gorgeous!

@KD17 I can't believe your planner sent you there! Thats insane! But at the end of the day after we make these decisions all we can do is love what we chose and move on. I think your invites are classic and elegant! oh and Congrats my fellow August bride :-) Can't wait to see your bam!

I went through the sane thing because I ordered an invitation with a ribbon which caused it to be considered a "package" so I was lucky enough to have more time before I had to send the invites out, so I decided to make some adjustments so I recreated my invites. Such an inconvenience however I saved a lot of money on postage!

Nothing. I stocked up on stamps at my school bookstore. Scholarship funds paid for them. I think I did pay like $11 for a few of them because we forget the stamps. The invitations cost .92, so that was 2 stamps per invite, and a 3rd one for .48 the rsvp. I didn't run into any problems with the rhinestones, or pearls.

@KD17 you should've found the company that designs the invitations and went straight to the source. A lot of places buy direct, and then mark up the prices. You got ripped off. My goodness I'd be pissed. I paid $400 for 50 invites (includes the whole suite).

@CrystalQueen2B love your invites! i feel like my invites should be in the same category in terms of shipping as yours. I'm going to go to another post office tomorrow and get a second opinion. I would love for them to let me send them just based on their weight of .68c vs. 2.45 because of the rhinestone.

OP thank you. Good idea! I think it's absolutely ridiculous to charge you that much for some rhinestones. Please update once you've gotten a second opinion. Btw: your invitations are absolutely gorgeous, I love the purple ribbon.

I used one forever stamp per invite/RSVP card with a paper belly band I made myself. Definitely wasn't going to spend crazy amounts on invites.

My invites had a tiny little pearl on the belly band, they cost .93 to send, and then of course I added the rsvp stamp. I hand stamped them at the post office, and when I saw how some of my guests received their invites.. I was pissed. Pearl got scratched off, they looked like someone threw them on the floor and stomped on them. And they were all bent on the edges too. If I could have a do over I would make them way more simple!

I was shocked mine didn't cost as much as I budgeted. We used post cards instead of regular mail and saved us a lot of money!

I have learned the minute people hear the term "wedding," the price skyrockets. We had the same situation. 3 different post offices, three different interpretations on price. Then of course my bitchy sister in law gets charged $1 for hers, no one else did, and she is STILL COMPLAINING ABOUT THE DAMN THING. I've offered to pay her multiple times but I think she prefers to just complain.

@CrystalQueen2B Thanks so much! @Amanda Yay!!! laser cut twin! The laser cut wasn't an issue. You should have to pay more than maybe .75c for it. it the rhinestone attachment so just be careful how you assemble but I will post an update after going to another post office this morning!

@Meagan Good to know. Thats exactly why they said I should send as a parcel for 2.45. They said the machine would bend them and the rhinestone piece would possibly get ripped off and ruin the envelope and invite, which of course scared me but the more I think about it and here from brides on here that had embellishments who paid less than $1 per invite I think they charged me wrong...

@ Kobieta thats ridiculous she is holding $1 over your head and equally ridiculous 3 post offices gave you 3 answers...smh!

UPDATE: So I went to 2 more post offices to see what they would say. 1 post office said my invites should be considered a large envelope .92c but the only way for me to get a refund is to go to the original post office . The 2nd post office first said .68c first class then changed it $2.45 after I told them about what the 1st charged at the first usps. She said the post office was correct because anything metal is not considered flexible and the entire envelope must be flexible to fit on the machine...Now i'm confused whether I should just put the 4 stamps per envelope or literally go back to the first post office and ask about .92c large envelope option. what would you guys do?

I purposely got invitations that only needed regular stamps. I still spent $80 just on invitations (invites plus the RSVP cards) not including STDs. Its a drop in the bucket in terms of what people spend overall on a wedding!
