Postcard-style STDs: Opinions & Experiences?

A.Magill.Since.May, on March 16, 2017 at 2:55 PM Posted in Planning 0 27

I've received some postcard style STDs, I've always thought they were cute and probably least likely to get lost in junk mail since you can see what it is right away. Would it also be cheaper to ship without needing envelopes? Are there any major cons to doing them that way?

The only con I found was that the selection of the cheaper postcard stamps was limited. Last year it was coastal birds or something...

We did postcard STD's...I ordered custom postage off of zazzle...It made it more expensive than the ugly USPS option for postcard stamps, but I also did custom stamps for everything wedding related-so they were cheaper than the remainder of 1 and 2 ox stamps.

I did have a few that never made it to their locations....but that's bound to happen with pretty much anything at the post office. I recommend getting the thickest paper you can for them and hand canceling them so they don't get destroyed at the post office. Overall...Id still probably pick postcards again..

I did matte postcards with no envelopes and they got all messed up in the mail!

I just sent out my postcard STDs and loved them. I paid $50 for 100 of them. Stamps are 34 cents a piece and just stuck with the birds through usps.com. I could care less what stamp was. And to be honest, when you get mail do you stare at the envelope? I just throw it away.

I don't think any cons besides the place to write the address was a little smaller.

Make sure it meets the actual standard for postcards on usps.com. I think it is 5x7

I did post cards and had zero issues. I designed and made my own through vista print and spent less than $75 for 250 of them. There's also a sale through vista print right now for post cards. Just make sure you use the correct size to get to use post card stamps!

We did RSVP postcards. Currently (in the US), a postcard stamp costs $0.34, whereas a normal stamp costs $0.49. So, that's a bit of savings right there. They are also cost effective because you don't have to buy envelopes! Right now, USPS offers postcard stamps with either seashells on them or cartoon-y coastal birds on them.

We have gotten at least 20 postcards back so far, and have had no problems with them going through the mail. To avoid mailing problems, make sure your RSVP cards are actually postcards! Per USPS website: "You may think that your mailpiece is a 'postcard,' because it is a single sheet of paper. But to qualify for mailing at the First-Class Mail postcard price, it must be: rectangular, at least 3-1/2 inches high x 5 inches long x 0.007 inch thick, and no more than 4-1/4 inches high x 6 inches long x 0.016 inches thick. If your mailpiece does not meet the dimensions above, then the Postal Service considers it a letter and letter-size postage is charged."

We did postcards for our Save the Dates. I didnt care what the stamp looked like so I think we just used the american flag one...they are cheaper than a forever stamp though!

The only con I saw was they they do get dirty. The black stamp that the Post Office used to put it through the mail showed through the front and back on the card. If you are worried about them being dirty then you may want to get an envelope but I wasnt too concerned because everyone would still read all the info.

The only con is that the post office may stamp sh*t on them. But they are cheaper and more environmentally-friendly than cards in separate envelopes, so that's what I did.

I'm a big fan. I did postcard STDs and I loved them. The stamps were cheaper (I didn't care what they looked like for the STDs) and I had no problems mailing them out. I actually just received a friend's postcard STD in the mail last week. I like putting them on my fridge as a reminder of upcoming weddings!

Yeah, one con I've heard of is that they get really marked-up at the post office. One couple on here had ink smeared across their picture, I've heard of them getting shredded too

I put my postcard save the dates in an envelope, I realize the postage is more but the cards were cheaper and on sale so made it with it for us, think everyone has a different preference

I decided against them because for me the biggest con was lack of privacy. I published my wedding website info on the STD and I don't want that information circulating among the general public.

I did postcard STDs and really liked them (got them from minted). I used the bird stamps. It didn't really matter to me what they looked like, but I thought they were cute. Plus, they're cheaper than the forever stamps. I agree with @Sara though. They can get dirty, and sometimes the ink from the stamp the post office uses shows through.

We did postcard STDs and I regret nothing (not even the coastal bird stamps! They were cute and funky!)

My only experience was receiving one for the last wedding we attended. It was one of FH's friends getting married, and he'd paid extra for special handling or something. Well, it wasn't that special because the cards got all marked up. He was pissed.
