Postponed wedding...dress too tight!

Olivia, on July 13, 2021 at 7:13 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 5
Our original wedding date of 10.10.20 was pushed back a full year to 10.16.21. Well, with an additional year and the stress of quarantine, my dress is no longer zipping up all the way. I am thinking I gained a half size or one full size.

I have an appointment tomorrow for alterations and hopefully the seams can be let out. I am curious if I did something like adding gussets, could these be removed if I am able to slim down by October? Or should I wait to do any taking out until my second alterations appointment in September?? Not sure which is the best course of action. I want to be realistic that it may need to be done, but I I don't want to unnecessarily modify or damage my dress. I do not like corset backs and really want to avoid this option unless it is my last resort. Anyone in a similar situation who can offer advice is greatly appreciated!

A full dress size is 5-8kg or 10-15 lb, which is not a small amount to lose in 3 months, but there are so many factors to weight loss that it's almost impossible to say if it is achievable.

I've heard the seams in wedding dresses tend to be quite generous though, so hopefully they can just let it out - your alterations lady should be able to let you know - I have my fingers and toes crossed for you Smiley smile

I would wait, as long as your seamstress can do alterations in September, if still needed. It's totally possible to lose 10-15 lbs in 3 months. I've lost 20 lbs since April 12th and that wasn't even a strict diet. I've had numerous cheat days/weeks. It depends on how bad you want it.

Definitely wait and get the opinion from your seamstress before you make a decision. But it push comes to shove, dresses can usually be taken in/out a couple of sizes depending on the dress and seamstress.

I lived off mainly cucumber and celery sticks for two weeks before my wedding... I was kinda amazed at how full I could get off one cucumber. It was unsatisfying and I didn't necessarily feel happy, but I wasn't hungry anymore... as someone said earlier, it's just how bad you want it. 3 months is plenty of time.
