Postponed Wedding Reception...now Also Baby Shower

Amy, on February 7, 2021 at 9:32 AM Posted in Planning 0 22
Hello! My name is Amy. My husband, Brian, and I were married on March 21, 2020 in a small church ceremony. However, we were married at the beginning of the COVID-19 shutdown, so our reception venue had to close. We decided to postpone our planned wedding reception to March 2021. A year later, we are now expecting our baby boy in April! Is anyone else planning a joint celebration of postponed wedding reception/ baby shower? If so, how are you planning your activities for the guests?

Thank you!

Congratulations on your baby boy 🥳❤️. I'm not in that predicament, but I'll say just be really careful being around a bunch of people (unsure of your guest count) that close to your due date while this virus is still very active. Being sick your last few weeks of pregnancy is THE ABSOLUTE WORST, I hated even a cold the last weeks of my pregnancy. Goodluck with everything!

How exciting! I agree with Yasmine; I would definitely not put myself around people at the end of your pregnancy. My best friend just gave birth covid positive and her husband was denied access to the birth because he was also covid positive! It’s absolutely heartbreaking and I am not sure how you would enjoy yourself.

Congratulations! Are you doing a full wedding reception? If it’s a full blow wedding reception dinner/dancing; I’d have the baby shower separately or a joint bridal shower/baby shower.

    Oooh fun!!
If guests bring gifts, maybe they could bring baby gifts instead of typical wedding gifts?
I probably would abstain from games because otherwise it most definitely becomes a baby shower rather than a wedding ceremony- unless that’s what you want. I’d be tempted to just keep it as a reception and maybe just put a ‘if bringing gifts, please consider baby items’?

Thank you everyone for your input!

It is an outdoor event with a big courtyard, with plenty of space to social distance.
I am a teacher, and just received both doses of the vaccine. I will still practice safety precautions, and encourage all those who attend to do so, too!
Hand sanitizer bottles will be given as favors.
I will also have a separate online baby shower event for those unable to make it in person.
My baby’s name will be named after both grandfathers: Benjamin Thomas!

    Hi Maya,
It turned out awesome! I was already 37 going on 38 weeks pregnant and I was dancing on the dance floor. Exactly a week later on 4-3-21, I gave birth to our son.
If you are going to a wedding reception/ baby shower, be sure to plan with time before your due date. I had the date locked in more than a year ago, end I didn’t know when I would get pregnant. I was really cutting it close!
    Good luck and congratulations! 🍾

    Wow congratulations, and wonderful photo!!

May I ask if you had any baby shower theme or activities? Or was it more just a reception for celebrating your union? More wedding reception themed?

    Thank you!

It was a mix of both, but the DJ was a wedding specific DJ so the program was more catered to celebrating our union. There were a couple of baby shower games at each individual table. Smiley smile
    When are you due?

I’m in the same situation, due in November 2021. We had our small church ceremony and intimate dinner in October, now expecting! How did your combo event go? I’d love to hear any tidbits as I’m planning now.

Hi Blair! The combo event went very well! It was a mix of the wedding reception traditions (first dance, daughter father dance, son and mother dance, etc) and baby related activities (new parent advice, guess the price). I would say that it was more wedding than baby shower because we had a wedding DJ. The baby shower activities were done at each individual table, and guests brought gifts from our registry. When is your event and when are you due? Our reception date was cutting it close. It was held on March 27, 2021, and I gave birth exactly one week later on April 3!
