Postponement To Elopement

Sexypoodle, on August 28, 2021 at 12:59 PM Posted in Planning 0 8

Last week, I proposed the idea of canceling everything and eloping in Hawaii (where our honeymoon is already booked) and FH said YES! 🥳 We already postponed our Las Vegas destination wedding from 10/10/20 to 10/30/21… then this May we completely changed everything and moved the wedding locally to San Diego (still on 10/30/21)… and now we’ve decided to elope with just the 2 of us in Hawaii and couldn’t be happier and relieved.

Sure, we’ve wasted $6k+ on deposits in two different states, on multiples save the date cards being mailed, and on a few wedding items purchased, etc.🤪 But it’s much less than the amount of balances remaining if we continued forward with the wedding. Sadly, as the Delta variant began increasing during the summer, it felt like a repeat of 2020 and wasn’t worth the uncertainty.

I’m so happy and excited again!!! It’s like all of the joy rushed back as soon as we paid the deposit to the wedding planners in Hawaii. Obviously, this wasn’t the original (or even the second) wedding plan… but life happens 🤷🏽‍♀️. After going through the many ups and downs of being a Covid couple, the idea of an intimate Hawaiian ceremony on the beach and the adventure of eloping, feels so thrilling and special.

Yesterday we emailed our wedding vendors with a cancellation notice. But, to inform our guests, I found digital cancellation templates on Etsy. So we’ll purchase, download and text those this weekend. One other change is that we’re getting married on Halloween now instead of the day before. It just seemed funny and perfectly fitting, since this wedding planning during Covid definitely turned into a nightmare LOL!!!

Looking back, I wish we would’ve selected this plan right after postponing last year. But, it all adds to our story. Through this wild journey, I mostly LOVE how we’re coming full circle…. Hawaii is where FH proposed and now it’s where we’re eloping.

Congratulations! It’s going to be lovely…and getting the excitement back is a big plus! Hindsight is always 20/20 (I, too wish I had gone with our minimony right after last year’s first postponement so we didn’t lose out thousands in deposits), but everything happens for a reason and it just means that this was meant to be the plan in the end! Congratulations, again!

My fiancée and I just completely ditched our current wedding plans! We cancelled our ceremony and reception venues and are only out about $1,700 (we’re still early in the game). If it makes you happy, do it 🤷🏻‍♀️ It’s about you two and no one else! Best wishes 🖤

Yes! I totally understand. For us, it’s just not worth all the up and down just to host a party anymore. We’ll elope and use the extra money to have more fun during the honeymoon. We’ve held on long enough and there will always be anniversaries to celebrate. Best wishes to you too.

Thank you! Hindsight is certainly 20/20. Although our decision is delayed, I’m just glad it wasn’t too late.

Thank you!!! I’m sure we will have a great time and I can’t wait. The feeling of relief is so real. Now I’m trying to decide between us having dinner overlooking the water or attending a Luau as our “reception”.

Maybe you could do the luau as your reception and save the dinner overlooking the water for a night during your honeymoon. That way you can get the best of both worlds!
