Postponing Honeymoon

Samantha, on September 5, 2017 at 9:59 AM Posted in Honeymoon 0 33

My fiance and I are fully paying for our own wedding and will hard pressed to save enough for both the wedding and honeymoon at the same time. We are debating postponing the honeymoon to maybe our 1 year anniversary that way it is less stressful to save extra money in a shorter period of time. I know many people have taken later honeymoons.

Has anyone done this or something similar, and have you found it to be helpful/more relaxing, especially financially? Thanks!

We are waiting until January and we just got married last weekend. Not for financial reasons but because August is a busy time (work wise) for my husband and it's just hot. I'd rather go to a tropical destination in the winter to get away from the cold.

We getting married in Vegas (we live in FL) and are staying an extra 2 days after the wedding to relax but are waiting until 2018 for our real honeymoon. Most of our friends have done the same because (besides the fact that it's financially easier) it's hard for a lot of people to take so much PTO in one shot.

We are putting ours off as well, mostly because FH needs to be in classes until early June and the wedding is late April. But also to save more for a better trip, as we're paying for both ourselves.

We got married in December and took our honeymoon in April. Our destination didn't have ideal temps until that time. Also, it didn't hurt that we had way more cash by then. Smiley winking

We wanted to wait until next year for our honeymoon so we could take a longer trip - but I'm about to quit my job in January and overhaul my career so we thought it would be better to get everything out of the way before that happens!

There is nothing wrong with waiting!! I would suggest taking a couple of days off after the wedding to decompress though. You don't have to go anywhere I have just heard that most people are a bit exhausted afterwards.

We're paying too, it's going to be DW so we'll probably stay there for a week and then we'll save for a big honeymoon on our anniversary...possibly travelling around Europe

We're waiting until December, which sucks right now because I went back to work right after the wedding but it'll be worth it when the weather gets colder here! That's what I keep telling myself to pass the time at least lol

I think a lot of people are doing this for a variety of reasons: work, money, child care issues, etc. We are getting married in Dec and going on our honeymoon in Feb for work reasons. I thought it would alleviate some of the money stress but since are doing a cruise and the payment is due the week before the wedding! Awesome.

We are also paying for everything ourselves. We decided not to take a honeymoon but instead take the gift of money people give us and buy a camper. That way it'll be a honeymoon every weekend

We are having a mini-moon (I guess you call it? haha). I'm a hypochondriac and have a son that I don't want to be across the world from; so we plan on staying in Colorado for a few days, and then coming home for a few more days of alone time before returning to work. I would love love love to be able to go to Amsterdam when we can afford it!

I know a lot of people who waited and postponed their honeymoons. If anything they loved it because they saved up for an even better honeymoon than they would have doing one right after getting married!

We will be waiting for about 10 months after our date. It just works better for both of our schedules and gives us something to look forward to

Were postponing our wedding by 7 months. By doing this it's actually allowing us to use any money we get from the wedding to pay it off, so that by then we can just worry about expenses on our honeymoon. Smiley smile I think its less stressful this way and allows to build up more PTO at work.
