Postponing our wedding in August

Lori, on June 9, 2020 at 9:25 AM Posted in Pennsylvania Planning 0 12
Hello,

Our venue is refusing to allow us to postpone our wedding that is scheduled this August. Has anyone else in Aug postponed? Did the venue allow it and did they give you any trouble? I’m so upset and want to see if anyone is having the same trouble as we are. I don’t think things will be back to normal in August and I don’t want to wear a mask or social distance at my wedding. Anyone in PA?

From what they’re saying we may end up having a second wave. Especially with all the protesting that’s been going on and restaurants opening back up, there’s bound to be an increase. If they have to add on restrictions again then your venue will need to let you reschedule because they won’t be able to accommodate the contract you signed.

I’m not in PA. But what does your contract say about canceling? FH and I were set to have our 10/10/20 wedding regardless. But, recently the many protests began on top of the pandemic and also the states started opening up too. There’s a LOT going on and much more close intermingling at earlier stages than FH and I expected. I agree with the prior poster that “there’s bound to be an increase”. So that forced FH and I to have conversations about postponing. I read each contract to make sure we’re within the window to cancel (which we are). Thankfully all of my vendors are totally fine with it and being flexible. Are you still within your contract’s window of time to cancel?

Texas on 8/15, and our venue told us we couldn't postpone. So I feel your pain. At this point, we want to be married anyway, so we're going to go ahead if they won't let us postpone. It's a lot of money we wouldn't get back. The whole thing is a mess, but we can't really plan anything.

Our wedding is 10/03/2020 in Bear Mountain, NY. the venue said if need be we can change the date if COVID is still affecting plans with the wedding and everything will transfer over from what we paid which is good and bad. Good because we won’t lose money but bad if they don’t have dates we want then we’re stuck using this venue without getting our money back. We’re having the wedding no matter what, unless the venue cancels of course. The ceremony is outside but the reception is in a massive room that limits occupancy at 350 people. If we have 150 people I don’t think it will be an issue with social distancing in the slightest, but that’s just me. Sucks but we have to roll with the punches of this pandemic and just hope for the best. We want to get married so we can start a family soon, it’s been a long 6 years lol

Good luck to everyone with their wedding plans. I hope everything works out and we get to celebrate love together ❤️

Hi Lauren! I'm also getting married at Bear Mountain Inn - 10/30! We are considering changing our date to next year. Sounds like we're in the same boat!

I am also August in PA (and I looked at your profile, and if you're from around your venue, we're in the same general area). My venue is letting us postpone, but they are going in order - so they are only postponing those weddings that are coming up sooner, rather than later. We have a "soft hold" on January 9th if we do postpone, but if we are Green by August, we are definitely moving forward!

Hi Lauren! We also ended up postponing to next year (June 2021!) What's your new date?

Bear Mountain Inn was super accommodating and helpful as we were making the decision to push.

I’m sorry to hear, I was so looking forward to our big day, which I’m sure you were too! I know the restaurant is closed until further notice at BMI because Cuomo postponed certain indoor dining indefinitely because of the rise in other states.

Our new date is 10/30/21 - it was the only Saturday left for next October! And definitely happy with Bear Mountain Inn, they are awesome and accommodating like you said. Thank god we still get to marry our significant others and not lose money at the same time lol !

I’m sorry I just realized it was your guys original date that we took for next year. I hope we didn’t bump you guys or anything. I wanted a fall wedding and couldn’t part with that. I run hot all the time so I think I would sweat too much lol

Haha not at all! but that's super sweet of you to think of that. we were originally hoping for a fall wedding, but we didn't want to push the date a full year! we ended up choosing june intentionally. glad that we're kind of date twins now though in the same location. glad you were able to move things smoothly.
