Postponing til next year?

Destinnie, on April 29, 2020 at 7:28 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 16
Anyone else decide to postpone their wedding til next year due to the virus? Our 3/21 wedding got cancelled and so far, our venue or courthouse has not reopened. I chose that date because it was the first of spring (technically second because the first was a Friday) and to me, it symbolized a fresh start and new beginning in our lives together. Because of my reasoning, getting married on a different date didn’t sit right with me. May be petty I know but whatever. We were gonna push it til March 2021, but my current venue is booked. So instead, we’re going to work on purchasing a home, And then having our wedding in October of 2021.

That's a wise decision and I'm sorry you had to postpone such a symbolic date

I think we are going to do something similar, but will likely have a small elopement ceremony this year (as soon as we are able) and postpone our wedding and reception for at least a year. Our date is May 30th and our vendors don't have overlapping availability until mid-late summer next year. I'm not sure we want to wait that long to actually get married, plus I'd prefer to have my anniversary be during a time of year when we can celebrate year after year, not during a bad time for us (fall is really busy for me with work, so late spring/summer is best).

Thank you! It’s definitely been a tough decision. Our venue wouldn’t refund us the money, and I don’t want to forfeit what we’ve already put in to it. Sucks, but what are you gonna do? 🤷🏾‍♀️

I was thinking the same. Trying to find a time we could actually celebrate. Summer and winter is busy for us because of birthdays and holidays. So it was always either spring or fall. I’m thinking about maybe eloping in October and then having the actual wedding a year later. Hopefully things should be settled down by then with all that’s been going on.

Our governor just extended our stay-at-home order past our wedding date, so our original plans are completely off the table at this point and there is no opportunity to reschedule later this year without losing some vendors and deposits. So for us, if we are going to have an event similar to what we planned, we are going to have to wait until 2021 at this point. I really don't want to wait that long to get married so we are going to try to find a way to do a small elopement once enough of the ban has lifted to allow me to get my hair done and have a photographer there at the very least!

Yea it definitely sucks. I was almost thinking to just elope and not even reschedule, but we’d be losing so much money. And our photographer was 1200 so I want my money’s worth and not just a quickie shot of us at the courthouse

We have the same mindset! Since we also postponed, we are saving up to buy a home. This is the time to BUY since the market is going down.

I'm sorry to hear that you couldn't get married on your special date. Our venue did not have June 20, 2021 available, so we just decided last week that we are going to get legally married on our date, June 20, 2020 because that's the date I want my anniversary to be on, and I couldn't just pick another date to be married on because that too didn't sit right with me. So no, I don't think you are being petty Smiley smile We may also end up postponing the wedding for next year though. I am still waiting on availability of dates from my venue.

Yes it definitely sucks!! But that’s exactly what I was thinking. With all that’s going on, it’s the best time to buy. And we were gonna buy next year anyway, just wanted the wedding first before. But there might not be another better time than now. I also heard that fall is the best time to buy. Not sure how true that is tho

How funny because I always heard summer was the best time because that’s when schools out and families move, and if you’re looking for a family size home, that’s when you want to be looking. Families with kids don’t really want to be moving mid school year or near the holidays. Although, I’ve been looking on Zillow and Trulia, and the prices of homes keeping going down!
