Postponing your period??

Rach, on October 14, 2013 at 10:28 AM Posted in Planning 0 15

I am on the new Minastrin 24 FE (the replacement for Loestrin 24 FE). I didn't do a very good job of planning our big day around my monthly time, so wouldn't you know I am supposed to start on the first day of our honeymoon (the day after the wedding). I have read old threads where many people recommended skipping the inactive pills and going straight into the next pack in order to skip a period. I need feedback from people who have done this before! Should I start doing that a few months before the wedding so my body has time to adjust, or just do it the one time? Sidenote: I will be talking to my Gyno about it at my annual in January, but I would like some feedback from people who have actually gone through it!

Yes-- talk to your OB/GYN, because things may be different with different pills. But generally, you do want to start this earlier so that your body can have time to adjust. There may be some side effects early on like break-through bleeding that should subside as time goes on.

If you can see/talk to your OB/GYN before January, that may not be a bad idea.

I've done it before. You skip the "period" placebos, and start a new pack. I'm not familiar with your bc, but it sounds like they just don't include the placebos. My doc. let me do it with Ortho. I did have random breakthough bleeding from time to time. I only did it three months, though. Ortho made me crazy! I just stopped the pills all together.

Mine is suppose to start the day after my wedding. So, it will either start early on my wedding day, or I will have serious PMS. I've already warned everyone...

    Good luck!

I specifically went in to my OB/GYN for this exact issue. Wedding was in August. I went in June when I figured out even after alllll the planning I thought I did right, that my period would be starting ON my wedding day or during the honeymoon. I was given three packs of pills and I started in June, skipped my period in July (by skipping the sugar pills) and then in August (over my wedding) and was told I could have skipped a third month in September if I had wanted to, but I decided not to. I do think you should start the process atleast one month before because for me it did take some time adjusting to no period in July. Hope that helps.

They also have pills that you can take to stop your period from starting, check with ob/gyn.

I used to be on loestrin 24 fe and skipped placebos to avoid my period during my honeymoon. I did it like six months out because I always spot when I skip them. I ended up getting my period a week before the wedding so it worked out really well!

I talked my obgyn a year out. I needed to push it back two weeks (honeymoon and wedding). She had me skip one pack of placebos then and wait a few months and do it again. I didn't have any problems. It was a lifesaver!

I have implanon, the best birth control and I usually skip months and even if I bleed its barely any only for like a day. lol that's not my arm but it's put in the exact same spot as mine is. Also can't get pregnant, and never have to use protection with your hubby. I have had it for over a year and no protection other than implanon.
