Potted Orchids as centerpieces.... risky?

We want to have planted orchids as center peices and I see them in the grocery stores/home deopot all the time. Would it be too risky to buy 8 of them right before the wedding or does anyone know of a good place to purchase them? Can we order them directly from a store to save on shipping? How far...

I get them all the time from our local Henry's (only 29.99) and they last for months- and believe me, I can kill a cactus. I thought about it too for centerpieces with some decor around them. I haven't committed to it but each time I see it I start thinking about it again.

I buy these for my home year round from Home Depot. They ALWAYS have them in stock. Check them out.

I don't see why it'd be an issue waiting closer to your date. Girl, I've got 68 days before my wedding & my centerpieces aren't done yet. I am buying materials this weekend & one day next week me & my MOH are making them and boxing them away but I only have a 6 month engagement this time around (previously engaged to same man). We get money for the wedding little by little & the only people helping are my parents, they rented the venue because my Dad could get it $150 cheaper then I could (Member's Discount) & then they are doing the food which won't cost more then $200. So this weekend is a big wedding purchase weekend for me, lots of traveling to different stores to get my supplies, lots of wal-marts, deals, dollar trees, hobby lobby, michaels and pottery barn. LOL.

I saw an orchid stand at our local farmer's market last time I was there...Maybe yours has one?? She was a local florist who specialized in orchids.. They were very pretty, but very expensive! Smiley smile

Last summer I had a going away party for a friend of mine and used centerpieces using live orchid plants. They looked really exotic and the coolest thing was that at the end of the event some of the guest were able to take home the centerpieces. I the ordered the plants from http://www.orchiddistributors.com at an affordable price price. Initially I was a little nervous over whether the plants would survive the shipping stress but they did just fine. I still have a few of the plants on my patio (with no flowers by they will bloom again, I was told.

Old post but figured I would update. We did use potted orchids but bought them from the store Kings. They were perfect.

I work at Trader Joes and am planning on using potted orchids for my tables(small wedding, I only need 7) I used to order the flowers and am planning all my flowers(bouquets as well) from there, with the exception of maybe some orchid sprays for my bouquet of I can find a florist with them. As long as you are not too picky with colors or have a back up plan, it doesn't hurt to give a store a call and see if they can ensure a fresh order for that day. Again, not a florist shop=can't order by color, but mine are going to be $13 per table for something ppl can take home. If I need to mix my purples with some white plants, so be it!
