Potted plants at reception?

Yam, on August 19, 2019 at 2:09 PM Posted in Style and Décor 1 17
I’ve been toying with the idea since it’s supposed to look like a forest to not only have fresh flowers on the tables but potted flowers as well on the guest table and such, heck maybe even small trees if I can find them cheap enough.
Our local plant nursery sells both of these things. Crazy idea or good idea?

I think it could look great if done well, but do you have something to do with all those plants afterwards?

I think it could look beautiful as long as you have a plan in place to transport them to and from the reception space! That would be my only worry with this, is the logistics of transporting them. Other than that though I love the idea!

I’m pretty sure all the older women in my family would fight over them, they love gardening! It’s a local wedding for everyone so they could take them home, or I’d just keep them for my own yard.

Hmm you have a point. My father is letting us use his truck to transport other wedding stuff, I’m just not sure about keeping them from falling over!

We had potted tuberous begonias as our centerpieces. At the end of the reception we told people they could take them if they wanted, and the rest went with our photographer (she had a contact already, so it was easier) to a nursing facility to be given to residents.

Yesssss! I hated the idea of plants dying for me to have something pretty for one day. I did very very very few flowers and a whole bunch of succulents planted in teapots and teacups as decor!

Ahhh I forgot to mention! If you go succulent route you can gently transplant them into a large planter to keep!

Our digital artist was so great to us and she has the green-est thumb and adores succulents so we gifted her about half of our succulents.

Those are sooo cute! FH keeps joking about succulents, maybe he secretly wants them.

I worked a wedding that used succulents on the tables and it was so nice. I think there are so many things you can do to make it beautiful and unique. I like the idea of different pots that all go together or unique objects to plant them in. A lot of people like them since they are easy to take care of as well.

Yeah I just want plants on our guest table or taller plants on the floor near the entrance. Different sized vases could look pretty cool and whimsical! People could take their “pet” succulents home. I’m hoping I can find lush and colorful flowers too, considering Pansies because I love their colors!
We’re checking out a plant nursey today to get an idea of selection and price.

I'm loving this idea. Pansies are so pretty and since they represent loving thoughts they are so sweet for a wedding. I think if you can get them all there and set up, then have a place to put them after, if could look truly special.

I had no idea they represented loving thoughts! Ok now I have to have them! I showed FH and he said “Aren’t those the flowers that bullied Alice?” Lol in Alice in Wonderland! He’s right but I love them.

Great idea! Some nurseries might even rent you potted plants or flowers. 👍

So we went to the nursery. Pansies wouldn’t be in season but we found these Phlox in vibrant colors, $10/each. I’m pretty sure we can get them cheaper but this is a nicer nursery to see more variety, still that’s a cheap price!
They had gorgeous flowering trees, even a purple one but one tree is $120...mmm maybe? We’ll see. FH had fun looking at the fat fuzzy bees everywhere. It was a good time for a wedding errand. I hope I can find more colorful flowers next month, ones with multiple colors onbthe petals like my dear Pansies...
