My husband and I got married on August 28th at an outdoor wedding venue. Everything was going absolutely perfect all day, until just after everyone started dancing there was a power outage all across the area that our venue was located in. At first we anticipated it would be a short time until it was back on, but after over an hour went by we really started getting upset. Eventually, the power did come back on, but by that time many guests had left, and we really feel that we lost so much of our special day that we had planed so hard for!! The power was in/out for approx 2+ hrs. ~10:45-1:00am

The owner eventually visited the venue and was incredibly rude and took no responsibility

For an outdoor venue that has had 600 weddings, they had no backup plan, no generator, and at this point are not seeming as though they will be offering any kind of compensation whatsoever.

I'm looking for help/suggestions/advice, and wondering if anyone else has had to go through this as well

You Ashley, need to grow up. You asked for suggestions and advice, and in true ask-hole fashion, refused to listen when you didn't get the answer you want. Oh, that's not exactly true; one person agreed with you.

If you're 'well connected' in your community and professions, I can pretty much guarantee you that your 'community' and colleagues would give you the same answer; get over it and move on.

I'm in NJ; we lived through Sandy. We had venues close never to open again; we had wedding mutated to fit the approaching weather; we had two couples cancel all together because there was a state of emergency. Consider yourself lucky and stop whining.

By all means, feel free to needlessly spend your time and energy to engage in your frivolous lawsuit. You're so well-connected in your community, I'm sure you know a lawyer or two who will be happy to gouge you with the consulting fees.

I keep scrolling past this and misreading as 'power outrage' and it seems so perfect.

Go ahead and file your frivolous lawsuit -- highly endorsed by your professional contacts. Maybe you're connected to the small claims judge and he'll find in your favor (despite the fact that you have no case). Nobody is bashing you. If you were so confident in the advice given by your professional contacts, why did you bring it here? You have no case.

I am, however, actually confused by this:

"To suggest I am being as unreasonable as saying to sue a driver who hit a pole, or sue the hydro company, come on and grow up."

I don't understand how either would be any more or less ridiculous. You didn't pay them money, but in either case, they're more likely to have 'caused' your wedding to be ruined, aren't they?
