Power outage at venue?

Lynn, on January 26, 2021 at 12:20 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 4

I'm pushing my date back to 2022 and am back to looking at new venues. We haven't decided on one yet.

My cousin was just telling me about her friend's wedding where the power went out. Great. Something else for me to worry about...

That got me thinking. I'm looking at barn venues sort of in the country. We do get some nasty storms where I live, even during the summer. What do you do if the power goes off during the ceremony/reception? How will the music be played without speakers. We are going back and forth between a late summer wedding (hot!) when my FH will have some time off or a winter wedding (cold!) when my family will be in town for Christmas anyway. I'm assuming the venues have some sort of emergency lighting, but can we carry on with our reception and make the best of it somehow? I don't want my guests to be freezing if heat is out (if winter wedding) or blazing hot without AC in the summer. Ugh.

This is one of those extremely rare situations that you honestly cannot even bother yourself with planning for. There are a million things that could go wrong 0.00001% of the time, you can’t spend your time planning for those things.

Best to ask when doing tours. I live in NY and there was a nasty snow storm during my sisters sweet 16. Everyone lost power (we lived 10 mins from venue) but thankfully they had a generator! So the party still went on

The venue should have a generator for things like this.
