Practice your signature y'all

Danielle, on August 1, 2019 at 11:25 AM Posted in Married Life 0 60

So, one thing I never even thought about, until it was too late (will explain) is that I never practiced my new signature after changing my name. Well, I used to sign out my entire first name middle initial and last name, but then I got lazy. Being a mom means signing a lot of things haha. So, I started signing my first and last initial...and had been using that as my signature (except for when I signed really important docs, then I signed my entire name). Quick and easy. Andddd this never crossed my mind, but when me and my husband went to the bank to join our finances, I went to go sign my name and realized that I have a new name and didn't really plan for this LOL. So, I lazily signed my first and new last initial, thinking that I could practice later and perfect it. Wellll.......the bank teller decided to tell me AFTER I signed everything that I better use the signature that I signed with (which is just DD, because I just had to be lazy) so they will be able to identify me. *blink blink* Excuse me what? You mean I am stuck with that signature? And she said YES!!! OMG, I think I am totally going to practice, and go back to the bank and ask if I could resign everything so I can have a "do-over" haha, think they will accept? Anyways, this might not seem like much to some, but to me It was just a small little (but kind of important) detail that I never thought about, until this happened. So, learn from my mistakes and practice your signature ladies before changing your name and signing any important documents. Smiley laugh

I've practiced my signature a few times already and let's just say, it's not pretty. I feel like I'm in 5th grade learning cursive all over again lol

Haha, I feel ya. I feel so weird signing my new name. Definitely going to take some getting used to, because it does not feel natural at all yet.

I'm sure if you really want to you could re-do your signature at the bank. My mom (who works at the bank) actually told me to come in and ask for a new signature card (what they compare your signature to if they don't know/recognize you/you go to a different branch) because my signature had changed so much (due to laziness!) since I first signed it when I opened the account.

But yeah, I'm definitely going to have to practice new signature. My current one is so sloppy and barely even a thing.

In addition to the signature (which wasn't as big of a problem), I struggled the most with saying my last name when I picked up the telephone at work! I taped my last name to the phone just to break me out of script mode.

Lol, it's good to practice, especially during slow planning times.

OMG, YES!!! I sound like a stuttering idiot half the time I go to say my name, lol. Especially when I was in that weird limbo between wedding and legally getting it completely changed. That was a rough one...I was like "I don't know my name!!!" Haha

I'm going from KK to KI. Capital cursive "I" is hard!

It's always funny to me. I went from a P to an R last name and somehow that stupid little leg makes a world of difference and I struggle with writing cursive Rs pretty! Lol
That and twice I've accidentally signed my maiden name out of sheer habit...lol

I've been trying to practice, and it totally sucks!! It's so unnatural and feels so wrong! I'm worried that my hand is never going to get used to that configuration. I have a fairly long signature, which over time has evolved into a thing where only the first initials are absolutely recognizable. Like C.....L.....H.....with dotted i's and crossed t's. But now I have to completely change the flow, because my hand is used to flowing straight into my version of the cursive H, but now has to try to flow it into a cursive S, which is not even close. Ugh.

I agree with Caytlyn, I feel like I'm back in grade school learning cursive for the first time.

I’ve been practicing & it really isn’t pretty. Presently I use my first initial & my last name, but my first initial & my new last name doesn’t look or feel right. My full first name is really long, and I don’t go by Kelly professionally... ugh!

I hear ya! I'm going from CA to CF. A is a piece of cake especially when paired with a C in cursive. F is hard! You have to lift your pen.

I didn’t actually change my signature. It’s always been chicken scratch anyway, it probably closer resembles my new name anyway.

Such a valid concern Danielle... I’m planning to keep my name and add FH. I’m not loving the flow so far. Guess it takes some getting use to.
