Pre-Cana for Destination Wedding...do it local, will it transfer?

AlyPV, on November 2, 2013 at 8:35 PM Posted in Planning 1 7

I am getting married 2000 miles away from my hometown. Being a Catholic it is mandatory that FH and I attend a Pre-Cana meeting(s) before the church will marry us. If I sign up for Pre-Cana at my local church, will this be able to transfer to the church that is marrying us? I am going to call the church to confirm this but wanted to know if any of you have any experience with Pre-Cana and Destination Weddings.

Call both churches. I assume that this can vary among churches/preists

You get a signed certificate from the church where you do precana. It's done by the diocese so I would call both dioceses and see what they say.

I am getting married in Italy. My wedding planner gave me instructions on how to handle this. Im doing everything local and then my dioceses will be in touch with the dioceses in Italy. In the meantime their is another person (wedding planner is using) to make sure the documents (passport, birth certificates etc) are legitimate and files the documents in Italy to make it legal. Are you working with a priest in your destination country?

    Thanks so much ladies!

@WeddingDestinationItaly: We are getting married in Puerto Rico in April 2015 so we have time but we are going for our first "wedding business" visit in January so that is when we will be meeting the priest. We do have a wedding planner as well so I will be asking her about this to prepare for our formal visit to church. Thanks so much for your help!

Oh wonderful! Good luck and you do have plenty of time. Being that it is destination you need a lot of time to get all this worked out. I am deciding on the church and getting all the required stuff out of the way now. The priest here and in Italy said they wanted to have at least 6 months. Good luck and I can't wait to hear more about your amazing wedding that is sure to come! Smiley smile

    HI!

I know that these posts are old but they were the only ones that I could find that were relevant. I am trying to get married in Puerto Rico (no date set but late April/May of 2015). I know that the date is quickly approaching but we had to move it up for personal reasons.

Anyways, being catholic I am trying to figure out how to organize the ceremony at the Catholic church. It is very important that we receive the sacrament in a Catholic church and are not trying to take any shortcuts. How did you go about contacting the churches in Puerto Rico? I am trying to work things out with my home church to do the pre-cana etc. Any help would be appreciated!
